I almost want to apply to get one of these awesome things.

Belgian Malinois are quite the handful! It also seems like there might be a lot of training required and I bet vetting too! Good luck if you choose to do it, but I'd seriously consider not adopting a Malinois. I've had exposure to working class dogs lately. We have friends who train Dutch Shepards for the THP and they also raise Malinois. They are very powerful and high energy. Good luck with whatever you decide! And at least if you're in Texas you'll have an opportunity for some BBQ!

We have a dog that we are pretty sure is mixed with a Malinios. He's fantastic. Good guard dog but incredibly loving and well behaved.

Yep, they can be a handful. We fostered a senior female Malinois that was in poor health at first and when she got better she started getting aggressive with my Australian Cattledog/Red Heeler so she had to go to another foster.

Having worked a K-9 if chosen properly have a huge drive. So they will need plenty of attention and if they haven't been retired for awhile they will take adjustment to becoming retired just like a human.

He's handsome! Almost looks Mastiff/Mali!

Mastiff/ridgeback more than Mal I'd guess.

I have a Mal. They are extremely intelligent and high energy, even in old age. There may be some mellow Mals out there, but more often than not, they will require exercise and work to remain sane. Ours is medicated for anxiety, in addition to regular exercise. They are great and loving dogs, but anyone looking to get one needs to be prepared to provide for the needs of a high energy dog, or else you're not doing yourself or the dog any favors.

That's all I need, my new TSA dog standing in front of my neighbors house every time he got loose. Better yet, scratching the paint off the car doors.

I'd think a TSA dog would be ruined by being around that stupidity and incompetence.

We've all had to work for stupid human bosses before. Dogs are no exception.

What they said.  High energy working dogs can be a chore to deal with sometimes.  They're excellent companions and guard dogs, but if you're the type that works 10-12 hrs/day (and can't take the dog with you), this dog is not for you.

Sam, what were you wanting the dog for? Home protection? Livestock? I have a friend who has a few Anatolian Shepard under her care right now. They are looking for good homes for them, there are about 4 puppies I think that will need homes soon. They are about 5-6 months old. They are mostly outdoor dogs used for livestock guarding. Again, same think as a Malinois, high energy and very protective. A handful and not for the snuggly type of home. But if you interested, I can get you in touch.

Don't think he has ridgeback. He's pretty short and no Ridge.

As a puppy he looked just like a Mal.

Thanks for looking out, but I can't take on anything extra at the moment. Too many uncertainties going on for the next bit.

The short hair a build of the body was what looked similar. I guess Mals are becoming more popular, but up until recently, Mals just weren't a common breed in the states, outside of military/law enforcement and competition circles. I've been seeing them with more frequency each passing year, so I guess they might be getting mixed into mutt bloodlines more these days. That would be a very uncommon thing just a decade ago.

Very true. I meet people all the time who have never heard of the breed.

But, as a pup this is why we thought he was a Mal,

My Mal on vacation. Can't even keep her with a boarder, so she goes where I go.

I definitely see the Mastiff. To be honest, his face and body is way to blocky for me to think that he is a Belgium Malinois. Edited by Patton
