Hey, Gang...

...Is nice to be a participant here - I've been suggested several times from friends, & so on to "Check out the TN Gun Owner's!"

Originally from the coast of Maine, now living & enjoying the culture here near Bakewell, Tennessee.

I became interested, NO! "Fascinated," [or rather: "Obsessed" more like it!] w/ the "SKSs" and M-nagants/MilSurp "Stuff" and recently completed a full-blown "De-Mod" & complete re-conditioning of my first Chinese Type "56" carbine; and oh...WHAT a challenge it was! Very pleased w/ the outcome, so much so - I entertained thoughts of perhaps sharing my bed w/ "Her" but - decided against it...Seriously, this project represented more than another "Project," as - I've struggled w/ life-long handicaps, and for these past several years now - have been "Statutorily" blind...And so, indeed - a "Challenge" it was!

I'm told that there are "Classifieds here, "Buy, Sell, Trade?" I have a bunch of leftover/extra "Parts," accessories - thought I might try and peddle these? Any suggestions here from some of the Veterans would be very welcome...

Enough for now, anxious to check out these "Boards," and...Supper's almost ready.

Thanks, for permitting me the privilege of "Hangin' Out" with some of the most learned, experienced Fellow-Enthusiasts one could hope for. Yes - I'm all about learning; sharing too - many, many things (NEW) things I learned along the way, w/ respect the Type 56 project, that I commenced: 31 January, last; finished up - May 31, few mnths. ago...

Any suggestions, & so on - appreciated, thanks all...   "HistoryChef" aka ~Dave

welcome aboard Dave. The only requirement I know about relating to the trade and sell boards is to be a benefactor. You can take care of that by going to the "TGO STORE" tab towards the top of the page.

Thanks, Guys, will do...

Was just chatting w/ a relative back in New England; Maine - she advised that last week, I think; State of Maine passed, & ratified the "New" SENSIBLE "Gun Law"  RE: "Concealed Carry." ...No "Permit" Required...I LOVE it, about time, too. A "Step In The Right Direction."

Welcome Dave.

I share your love of vintage military firearms, especially WW2 as well as SKS's and the 1903 Springfield.

My current project is Fin M39.  Cosmoline is all gone.  The stock on this one needed to be refinished.  I've ordered scandanavian black pine tar.  No one knows for sure how they finished them.  The best explanation I've read is that they took eqaul parts pine tar, linseed oil and turpentine.  They didn't stain the stocks - the color came from the pine tar.

As I'm sanding this stock, the pores in the grain are black from the pine tar, making it tempting to use a clear finish.
