Star Wars Trailer

We've officially lost Caster. Lol

I would say the same thing about people who follow grown men playing silly games with a ball. Many people find fictitious things dumb or beneath them but sports are equally worthless. It's all pass time. If it makes you happy (and it's legal) it's all good.

Barely interested. Won't be seeing it in the theater.
THIS coming from one of the biggest Star Wars fans TGO has ever had. Not bragging, just truth.

Why?
Disney.

What did Disney do that's so bad you ask?

Disney has come out and said that any and all expanded universe is no longer canon. Bull śhît!!!!!!!! I spent years reading. There are over 200 full length novels and stories that are ten fold more involved and in depth than ANYTHING Lucas ever did. Just the work Karen Traviss did with the Mandalorians and Clone troopers is massive. So they're gonna tell me that Grand Admiral Thrawn never existed unless it suits them? Eff You!! The Yusong Vong war? Jacen Solo becoming Darth Caedus? Boba Fett finding the cure for accelerated aging to save thousands of clone lives? Mandalore making a full recovery and the return of the Madalorians? Boba building the most elite and highest quality military manufacturing facility (Mandal Motors) surpassing even the Correlians for bad ass star fighters? Did Chewbacca NOT die saving Anakin Solo from a moon crashing into Serndipal ? (Okay, that would be nice)
I could go on for hours and it's all for nothing?

I hate you Disney. The Force is not in you.

Disney is likely hedging their bets that there aren't a significant number of Star Wars novel readers who will be so incensed as to not watch this new release.  Pretty much, they don't care about you or your books; they gots Mickey money to generate!

You should go watch it though.  They'll likely have Jar Jar Binks in it, who was arguably the best character ever.  So, like Luke Skywalker once said, live long and prosper.  Let the force be ever in your favor.

It wouldn't have cost them a dime to work with material already present. It's just the arrogant narcissistic BS that Disney is all about. But, they did pay money for it, it belongs to them and they are free to do whatever they like with it.

To me, it would be no different than buying Star Trek and turning Kirk into a homosexual that couldn't fight or make quick decisions. The franchise is contaminated.

$5 says the dumb :poop: snowman from frozen will make a cameo before its all said and done.

To be fair, George Lucas said the same thing about books not being canon for future movies long before Disney was anywhere close to the franchise. As soon as the books started coming out, Lucas said he had authorized them, but wouldn't take them in to consideration if/when he made any more Star Wars movies.

The books really do hem them in many ways. Pretty much every year in the lives of the main characters from the end of ROTJ onwards has been occupied by the books. That means any movie has to go the the end of the books and start from there. Chewie can't be in them because he's dead by that point, Han and Leia have to be married and have had 3 kids, Luke has to have restarted the Jedi order in a specific way, the public has to have general knowledge about the Jedi and the Sith, you have to deal with a Luke Skywalker character who is as powerful as Yoda or Palpatine, plus he's not the most powerful one around, etc.

I can understand saying "screw that. That's not the story we want to tell."

Then you also have the issues of references to the Clone Wars in the books not lining up with the 3 prequel movies. The Dreadnaught starships come to mind. The books make them out to have been all the rage and kind of the standard issue capitol ship during the Clone Wars, but they're nowhere to be found in the movies. Oops.

Honestly, try to name a universe that expands book, comics, films, games and comes out the way you want it to. Aliens is a perfect example, the movies beyond 2 just went way off the rails. I like 3 alright.. and it least it stuck to the same timeline but it veered off from the books so heavily that they had to rename some of the characters just to appease the die hards. Hicks became Wicks, Newt became Billie. Star Trek is the same way.

If you were a comic book reader.... good lord at the plot twists and re-envisioning...  after a few years your character could even change gender.

I'm just going to watch it because it's fun to see a movie. If anything, you might see girls in slave Leia outfights and that's enough for me.....

Just wait until you guys discover girls - they're way more interesting than fantasy sci-fi. ;)

Remarkably, my mind is able to manage girls and the occasional Sci-fi flick. Guess no one ever informed me they were mutually exclusive. ;)

I have to imagine Disney will do a good job with this. Star Wars isn't some cult following and Disney paid like 4 billion dollars for the rights. They literally have the eyes of the world on them. The offical trailer on Youtube has already crossed the 40 million mark.

People expect a lot out of this franchise and after the last trio flopped, I seriously doubt they'll just throw it together.

But there in lies the problem. It's Star Wars, so even if it sucks... they'll make a killing on merch and people will gobble it up. I fully expect the next two months to be like this:
