Weird shotgun

OK I have a weird one for you guys. At work a guy brought me a l.c. smith side by side 12 GA it says it is a hunter on it. I have looked everywhere and see these go from 600 up to 2000 or more but there is very little info on them. Can some one give me a better price range and more history on this cool gun

Does it say simply Hunter, or does it say Hunter Arms?

Sounds like you have an L.C. Smith by Hunter Arms Company.  There is a lot out there on these shotguns and they are generally considered some of the best U.S. shotguns ever made.  These good folks can tell you pretty much anything you want to know about your shotgun.

I have a friend that has several L.C Smith Double barrels he has had for many years in his collection of shotguns. back when he bought them they were a very sought after double barrel. His are all original L.C.Smiths and two of the are so old they have the Damascus twist barrels on them which does not recommend anything except Black powder shotgun shells be used in them. ...... :2cents:

Pictures would help immensely. Barrel length? Chokes? Grade? Condition? Extractors or ejectors? These are but a few of many variables that affect price and desirability.

And whatever you do NEVER try to polish it up or remove any patina. The only thing that should touch something like this is a cotton rag soaked in oil. Seen plenty of guns ruined by someone trying to make it prettier.

Pics. I have one of these I inherited but someone went and screwed on a funky aftermarket butt pad on it. I am looking for something a little more traditional to put over the end so I can pull the firing pins and put it over my fire place.
