Does anybody here have experience with this group? I have heard some mixed reviews from people I know. Thinking about dropping the cash to get a decent place to target shoot around here so I wont have an excuse not to go to the range ever week.

So anybody on here with some experience with these guys, would love to hear about it. Thanks

Hey Dean,

I shot there as a guest about a month ago and signed up today. The range masters I have met have been good guys, the RM today asked if I would like him to put on a pot of coffee.

I am from Texas so,Im not familiar with the Rod & Gun club thing. In Texas if you went to the range you were charged $7.00 per gun and $2.00 per target, you shoot for 1 hour then a 15 min. target change. For the $90.00 fee to be a member here I should be ahead by Friday.

Thats where I took my HCP class. The people seemed friendly enough. But I'm not a member. I am too cheap I go to the $2 national park range in Unicoi.

I went there a few times but the last time I went, the cast from the movie Delieverance showed up and I have not been back since. I just can not tolerate people who do not take firearm safety seriously.

Just a small recap for this interested. They showed up (And yes they did give the impression that they were imbred) and without a word just started shooting down ALL 3 ranges at random things including the targets my small group was using... but they were not even really aiming... just kind of pulling the trigger. They did it right in the middle of my brother in law standing on the range shooting... just walked up right beside him and started firing on our range.

We tried to be nice but they did not say much back (Again, I stress these people REALLY looked imbred). They just continued to shoot down the 3 ranges and ignore the other people there. While that was bad enough, they did not take care when handeling their pistols and just kind of waved them around. We never knew when they were loaded until they pulled the trigger. Being that this group was so reckless and unresponsive, we did not want to walk down range to check out targets for any reason.

After this went on for about 10 minutes, we packed up and left. Given though, that was the only time I have ever had a problem there... but now I really do not want to go back. I just want to find a good place to go shoot where people are responsible and respectful.

I have seen the "same" crowd at the Scoito Range in Unicoi. Just waited in my car till they used all their ammo. Just a short wait. These type people are hard to avoid in public places. They are the reason I carry a BUG.

Unaka had some negative issues reported in the local paper.

Cherokee Range near Kingsport is good place to shoot. I was a member for a while and like it.

You refer to ALL 3 RANGES.

If I am thinking of the same place they have 18 to 20 shooting lanes, and there was a range master that had you sign in and kept a good eye on things.

I did go to a public range at Watauga lake,I did not shoot because of the the reasons you mentioned. The following day went to Unaka as a guest.

Sorry, my response of a bad place was in reference to the national park, not the private club I am asking about. I have had bad experiences on the public ranges of which there are only 3 lanes.

I have no personal experience at all with this club which is the point of my post. I am looking for a safe and respectful place to shoot in this area. $90 is not going to break my bank but if I make the investment, I wanted to gather from other peoples experiences first.

I am hoping that when I find a nice place to go in this area, I can start hitting the range on a regualr basis again.
