Well, it's always something.

If accurate info, I guess Serbia and US makers in particular will benefit for a while.

Not that i'm in the market for a new one right now, just waiting for the BATF to do away with that stupid 922R so I can dress up my MAK90. Should I hold my breath?

You will pass out long before the ATF comes to their senses. Personally if you get the ATF knocking at your door over a 922r violation you have royally screwed up somewhere.

I have three Romanian guns and all have been perfect.

There are a lot of issues cropping up with the Century C47 and RAS guns. The bolts, not the carriers, are mushrooming BAD. They had issues with carriers being too soft and the bolts are apparently soft too. They are also using a lot of cast parts that are supposed to be forged. Only time will tell with the cast parts but there are already some knowledgeable people chiming in saying they will fail.

You'll pass out long before you are ever arrested and prosecuted for violating 922r.   Who checks these things?

They don't Mike or at least I have NEVER heard of a 922r compliance check. I imagine if they ever started there would be a lot of pissed off people and right now they do not want that, way too many people already pissed off. Everyone is on the look for someone to blame and at the top of that blame is our government. They really can't take a chance.

It really is a stupid law that does NOTHING for safety or security. It only serves to grief gun owners and stifle those who are in the business of selling guns or gun related items.

Like the stupid law that says a parts kit cannot include the original barrel. Every time they pass a stupid law gun parts, and especially AK parts, get more expensive. You used to be able to buy parts kits with original barrels for a few hundred dollars but now those same kits are $600+ and if it still has the original barrel add a few more to that number. I seen an RPK kit the other day that sold for $1,200 that probably originally sold for a few hundred dollars. Krinkov kits with the original barrel are $2,000+ and still $1,500 without.

We are in for a really, really rough road over the next 3-5 years as gun owners. We are already being targeted by our government as terrorists. Even Hillary has said gun owners are terrorizing the rest of the nation and should be dealt with like terrorists. Obama just announced he will have a domestic terrorism counsel to look for "right wing extremists", those who hold racist, bigoted or anti-government views or see themselves as “sovereign citizens. They have already declared veterans should be viewed as potential terrorists. So they are going to be coming for anyone they feel is a threat to the agenda. The government has even said "right wingers" are more of a threat than ISIS or any other jihadist. So imagine the resources that will be brought to bear against us if our government thinks conservative gun owners are terrorists that are more of a threat than ISIS. So anyone who does not feed into the BS our government is doing or saying will automatically be considered a terrorist.

Every year more laws get passed to control us. Eventually it will be impossible to live as a free man and that will be the day I become a criminal.

On the other hand I believe more and more people are starting to get sick and tired of all this socialist liberal PC bullsh!t, Trumps popularity I believe is an example of that. We are in a "cold" civil war of sorts that's getting warmer and warmer as the left keeps trying to transform America into Europe. It doesn't take a majority to push back against it, things are getting harder and harder for the working class, the liberals have ruined millions of middle working class peoples insurance with Obamacrap and I believe the economy is hanging on a thread while millions of jobs are being farmed out to other countries, a lot of people who had good paying full time jobs are working part time with crappy benefits and lower wages and higher insurance premiums and deductables. Also the last 8 years has seen a huge increase in gun sales, a lot from people who never thought about buying a gun before and more carry permits being issued also. I think everyone is in for rougher times soon, maybe not a full blown "hot" civil war but that's not 100% certain that wont happen someday.

Sure enough though if I put an AK stock on my MAK 90 I would probably be at the range shooting it next to a fed then I would be the first test case. Most likely not but the ATI Draganov stock I have is far better than the original. They were designed to replace the wooden thumbhole stock, supposed to be perfectly legal but then I read where there is some technical question about them, seems that no one can say 100% but they still make the A.T. and Choat Dragonov stocks for MAK 90's. I would assume if they were not legal the ATI and Chote wouldn't advertise them for MAK 90's.

I too, see this country spiraling down towards civil unrest and I think the ones in power at the moment, are perpetuating that spiral with their rhetoric.  I don't think anyone really wants to see the result either.  All this talk about Australian like gun control, which really means gun confiscation, may be the first real effort to push the right into open rebellion, depending on how the 2016 elections go.

Given this, what would you recommend for a guy looking to buy his first AK?  I really want to own and shoot one of these historical pieces.  I was looking hard at Century's...

Forget about any guns built by Century. I am talking about their U.S. made guns not those they import. The U.S. Made guns are being built using cast parts and they ARE failing.

The only AK I would buy in today's market is a current, as in 2013 or newer, WASR. They ARE the best factory built AK on the market.

Second would be the Russian made Saigas we are seeing on the market recently.

The WASR is not the POS if the past. The Romanians finally got their act together.

I base this on the fact I have owned at least a dozen AKs in the past two years, half were Romanian guns and the other half was a mix of various makes, models and countries of origin.

I wouldn't mind having a Romanian AK myself...a kit gun built with rivets, not screws, and a Nodak Spud receiver.

WASRs of today are some of the best AKs, if not the best AK, on the market.

Yugo's are built like tanks

I agree. If you compare a Yugo with a WASR side be side you can see the difference in quality. They both work.

Century C39 V2 has been getting glowing recommendations from multiple sources......

And the RAS 47. I'm really excited for the factory SBR that Century will be offering for around $1K

The RAS47 now uses a cast trunion. And they're failing in a dramatic fashion because of it. It is a low volume gun and if it is used for high volume use it WILL fail.

If your front trunion has a parting line it is a cast trunion and it will fail with even a moderate amount of use.

There are confirmed reports of EASEs going in excess of 75k rounds of full auto fire without fail.

Nice to know. I didn't know it was such an issue. I heard a few rumblings about the RAS47 having some issues but I didn't think twice about it.

Dolomite, you are truly a blessed man to own three of these babies! I have a Romanian parts kit that I've had for years.... from back when the only cut was made to the receiver. All it needs is to have the rivets driven and the barrel reinstalled. I have procrastinated, because I couldn't find anyone with the tools to drive the rivets so they look like factory rivets.

Did you build yours or buy them already assembled? My kit has all matching numbers with a factory built Noduk Spud receiver. Do you know anyone with the proper tools and skill, in middle Tennessee, that would possibly help me finish my project? I don't expect them to help for free. I'd be glad to pay them for their time and the use of their tools. All I ask is that the rivets are factory quality when we're done. I could "bubba" it up by myself! Thanks.
