Recoil Spring Assembly S&W Shield

Recommended Posts

I purchased a 9mm S&W Shield a few months back. It's a great little gun and shoots easily as well as most full size handguns I own.

I've been a certified dyed-in-wool Glockophile for a loong time. Love my 19. And love the fact that parts, such as a RSA (Recoil Spring Assembly) are inexpensively and readily available.

I am a firm believer in training with what you carry. Working them hard. And maintaining them. I've fired many thousands of round through my G19, and routinely change the factory RSA every couple of thousand rounds.

I really like carrying the Shield but I have had a challenge locating replacement RSA's for it. I originally e-mailed S&W about it (maybe last April). They said they had none in stock and suggested Brownell's or MidwayUSA. They had none and suggested S&W. LOL.

I e-mailed S&W again in early Sept and the rep (Ashley) said they were still out, but she'd put in a back ordered for 2 of the RSA's for me at no charge.

Well they arrived today.

That is solid customer service imho. So I wanted to share that bit of info.

I'm right at 750 rounds through the Shield with no issues. Now I'm GTG for several thousand more rounds.

I've looked for aftermarket RSA's for the Shield, but haven't located any yet. I prefer to run OEM when I can...but if any of you run across anyone making aftermarket sets, please chime in. Options are a good thing.

Cool beans! I'm always happy to hear about people receiving great customer service, especially when it's from my favorite brand! ;-)

And everything you said about the Shield is true! Love mine. Got it used, and since I've had it it's eaten probably 1,500-1,750 rds, conservatively. Only time it even choked was on some really underpowered reloads I made when first trying out a new powder last year.

I rock mine in a Bianchi model 100 and couldn't be happier. :-)

Maybe an email to S&W is in order. ;-) Edited by musicman
