223 brass/suppressors

Recommended Posts

Good gawd, suppressors are nasty. I thought I knew but now I have about 500 through my YHM Ti Phantom.
Nasty!

Anyway, the brass takes a right nasty stain too. About an hour in the tumbler and they're "clean" but the staining is there. I think it's paranoia with a dose OCD truthfully but has anyone noticed any issues with brass life as it relates to the heavy staining? I can't see it being a problem as long as it's actually clean, but thought I'd ask others experience.

Lemishine wouldn't touch the stains either. I ain't using anything else, ammonia based products would certainly get it shiny again....at the cost of my brass. No thanks. I guess I really need to invest in a rotary tumbler and SS pins w/ soap water........but I'm not. Too dang cheap for that.

I'm on my 4th reload of some once fired Hornady brass. After 5 total loads, they show now signs of wear, cracked necks or rings at the base. Even after full length sizing I'm trimming only a whisker with my WFT trimmer. I could easily skip that for at least every other load. I can see another 4 or 5 loads easy.

I guess one good thing, the piece or two that my brass catcher misses are easy to spot amongst the brass laying on the range. Lol!

An adjustable gas block will cut down on that as well as the blowback coming back into your face.

I was going to say this.

I use adjustable gas blocks and haven't noticed any staining.  Yes, they do get extremely dirty but it comes clean with an hour in the tumbler.
