Pocket holster

Recommended Posts

During working hours, I need deep (er) concealment and do not like tuckable holsters.

I discovered dress pants have reasonably deep pockets and with my quality belt, can easily carry my MK9.

I need to upgrade from my Desantis Nemesis, it draws with my pistol, so it's almost a two step draw, get rig out of pocket, remove rig from pistola.

Opinions welcome!

GTG. I've been using a Mika pocket holster for my J Frame for about 15 years.

I've used numerous other pocket holsters over the past 25 years, including a horsehide leather one I bought from Greg Kramer back when it was ProLine Leather goods.

Hand's down the Mika is my favorite and I plan to order one for my Shield within the next few weeks.

btw...I've had my J Frame in my pocket every time we've shot and trained together. If I known you were considering one I would have let you try this out. You are more than welcome anytime brother.

Prag, thanks for the offer, never seriously considered pocket carry, so we never really discuss it...no harm no foul.

Dolo, checked out that rig when you first posted...oone reason for pocket carry is aiwb or rather my waistband specifically is no longer gun friendly. I buy my pants 1- 2 inches bigger depending on fit, I have grown into those inches. Until I upsize or downsize, I'm avoiding any new IWB rigs.

I decided to go local and have commissioned gjohnsoniv to make me one

I make my own pocket holsters using a one gallon water jug and gaffers tape. Here is a link to the process.

http://www.thektog.org/forum/f87/milk-jug-pocket-holsters-256713/

The advantages of this for a pocket holster are...

1. They are super thin. If you want to hide something in your front pocket, the holster needs to be as thin as possible.

2. You can contour the holster to fit against your leg and to fit how you want it to fit in your pocket. I have some holsters that are longer so the gun presents higher in a really deep pocket. That is, the bottom inch or two is just pocket filler to raise the tiny gun higher in the pocket.

3. You can shape the "hook" so it becomes almost impossible for the holster to come out when you draw. I see this as a huge plus. I have to unholster the gun to remove the holster, but it can be pocketed with the weapon with no problem.

4. It's cheap... a roll of gaffers tape is $12 and the water jug is free or only a dollar if you don't have one available. You can use duct tape, but it looks awful, as you can see in the pictures in the above link. Gaffers tape doesn't leave a visible tape residue.

Here's a pic from the above link showing a tiny KelTec P3-AT in a DeSantis and a Glock 26 in a milk jug holster. They are almost the same width!

The P3-AT in the DeSantis holster is 1 3/16" wide... actually it's even wider until the sides are compressed in your pocket. The gun in the milk jug holster on the right is 1 5/16" wide, a barely noticeable difference in the pocket, but it's a Glock 26!

I bought a Nemesis for my PPK and it printed horribly.

Yeah,  Nemesis models much too thick for me.

I prefer leather for most holsters, but for pocket carry can't beat thin Kydex. My PM9:

A lot of pocket holsters will stay on the pistol when you draw.  All the fabric ones I have tried had the problem to some degree and the only leather one that has worked well for me was the D.M. Bullard one that we had for a Ruger LCR. The best leather holsters are OK but I really prefer Kydex as it is thinner, resists moisture, and can be made with a stiff hook to stay in your pocket with a smooth draw.  Check out Aholster.  I bought one for my LCP and my G26.  The one for my G26 has seen tons of use.  These holsters work great and he is in Tennessee.  This link should work now:

OS, what holster is that? I like it.

I've been looking for one for my G43. Recently I've re-discovered and been using a belly band style holster (lol) or UnderTech holster shorts if I'm wearing dress pants with a tucked shirt. Actually works very well, but I would like to give pocket carry a try.

Made by Stellar Rigs. That particular model only made for a few small heaters.

The Stellar above doesn't depend on any kind of friction or hook to stay in pocket. Gun just pops out from retention in holster when your fingers go in between grip and extra mag. So there's no further adhesion at all between gun and holster.

Been asked that so many times I made a demo pic:

I also have a Kydex holster for a J frame, which has a small flat "thumb stud", which you push against while drawing out of the holster. I also find that very effective, more so than depending on part of the holster to "hook" a corner of the pocket.

OS, who makes the kydex holster for your J-frame?  I've been using a Nemesis for my S&W Mdl 38 Bodyguard, but have been thinking about getting something else.

I pocket carry quite often and Kydex is the only way to go.

I agree 100%

You posted this pic a long time back and got me sold on Kydex pocket holsters. Thanks for the idea. I've made 2 for myself (P-32 and XD-s) and 1 for a co-worker (Shield) at my last job.

If you make them right, nothing could be thinner and mine has NEVER come out of my pocket on accident. In fact, It's often a chore to remove it on purpose.

Scored it off eBay inexpensively from some feller, but doesn't show in last three years, so I must have gotten it before that. How time flies.

It does have a "pocket hook", is curved for right pocket carry, but main way to release heater is to press down  with right thumb on top while pulling gun butt upward.

I can say I tried a Nemesis with my PM9, but it's like carrying a widdle stuffed pillow, so I'm sure I'd hate it equally for a revolver, which is already wider to begin with.

Here's a quick pic compilation to show you the style. I thought the little thumb stud sticking out laterally just a bit might be troublesome in pocket, but didn't find it so, but again didn't carry the revolver but a day or two, mainly got the holster as a backup way to carry in case I needed to for some reason (I carry PM9 daily). I think if I wanted it flat on that side without the lateral projection that makes it flat on top,  could actually just soften it with heat and pull it straight up and would still serve fine, or do that and even cut a bit off, whatever.
