Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton announced new gun-control measures on Monday in the wake of the mass shooting at a community college in Oregon.

Clinton's gun-control proposal, announced in New Hampshire, calls for closing the so-called gun show loophole on private gun sales, potentially through executive action, and allow victims of gun violence to sue weapon manufacturers by proposing a repeal of legislation.

During a pair of town halls in New Hampshire, Clinton also called for eliminating the "Charleston loophole," a reference to the June shooting at a church in Charleston, S.C., by barring those with felony records from buying guns if results of a federal background check aren't returned within three days.

"I really do want to push hard to get more sensible restraints on gun ownership in the wrong hands, and then to try and keep track of people who shouldn’t have guns," Clinton said during the first event aired on NBC's "Today Show."

"I want to work with the Congress – we got very close. There was a bipartisan bill, it didn’t go all the way, but I will also look for ways as president to tighten some of these checks, to get more of the background checks done on more of the sales at gun shows and online than we currently have," she added.

The measures Clinton announced Monday build on other measures she has already called for, including universal background checks, withholding guns from domestic abusers and renewing an assault weapons ban.

The measures come as Clinton seeks to shore up support among those on the left from rivals amid a surge for Sen.Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who has yet to unveil a gun-control plan. Sanders continues to lead Clinton in the Granite State, according to a poll released over the weekend.

Another Democratic candidate, former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, on Sunday touted a package of gun-control measures passed during his tenure and called on the two candidates leading the Democratic field to adopt initiatives on the national level.

Clinton called for new action on gun control following last week's shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore., which left nine people dead. The latest mass shooting has led to President Obama and many Democrats to renew calls for action.

"This epidemic of gun violence knows no boundaries, knows no limits of any kind," Clinton said Monday.

"How many people have to die before we actually act? Before we come together as a nation?" asked Clinton, who later choked up when speaking about the grief felt by parents of those killed during the Sandy Hook shooting.

She also reiterated a challenge initiated last week to promote an alternative to the National Rifle Association, calling on gun owners to "form another organization and take back the second amendment from these extremists."

Many leading Republican presidential candidates have pushed back on calls for gun control following last week's shooting, instead focusing on issues such as mental health. Clinton bashed those responses as an "admission of defeat."

I've really heard the term "common sense gun laws" beaten to death in the past few days.  I really believe that this phrase was coined to 1) insult anyone that does not agree with the proposed measures and 2) subtly convince the uneducated, uninformed and the fence sitters that going against the proposed measure would defy logic.

I know that I am preaching to the choir here but only a fool would simply go along with any government proposal without examining the contents for themselves and drawing their own conclusions.

350 million guns, all the law abiding folks legally purchase, give away their privacy in the form of universal background checks, register their weapons and...mass shootings still occur. Next step sell the fact gun laws don't keep you safe from guns, begin confiscation since you know where to look.

Guv'mint being so efficient and Americans being so law abiding, the get 90%...swords into ploughshares...victory! Except for the 35 million remaining in the hands of many BGs and of course, a disarmed population, which is the end game.

I best be quiet on this right now. Want to remain a member in good standings. All I have to say is make the Killing Fields Illegal and you should slow down and probably stop 90%+ of these type issues..................JMHO

she is a fool.  we got many guns laws.  put people that break them in jail.  things will change.  bring back the chain gang, lots of things will change.  but fools will never see the facts or understand them.

She's trying to appeal to her base. She doesn't tell the truth about stuff though, so her words are all meaningless. I'm sure she would go full throttle towards gun control if given the chance. That's what liberals like her do.

I'm still trying to figure out why she is not running her campaign from behind bars. It's amazing to me that she is not only a player but the front runner. Crazy

Isn't it ironic that law abiding gun owners are being attacked by someone who should rightly be in prison on several different offences?

Close the so called gun show loop hole.  What excuse will they use when that is a big fail?   If my neighbor and I want to trade guns who would know?  How would anyone prove anything.  It is so dumb it is laughable that she thinks this will do anything.

It is pandering.

A person intent on killing will get it done anyway.

This is currently my favorite website when discussing gun control proposals with people that feel the need to do something in the wake of a mass shooting.  I understand the emotional response and the resulting desire to try and curb violence carried out with guns and hope that information will lead us (society) to an optimal solution for everyone involved.

The country is full of them. fools that is.

Somebody needs to tell her that felons are already barred from owning guns.

I force any gun banner i know to read a form 4473 and then tell me what other groups of people should be restricted beyond those already prohibited

Shuts down their common sense bullsheet real fast

So there's about 350 million firearms in circulation right now in the U.S. A few million are on a state registration in states that require a registration. There is no federal universal background check law and no universal background check law in most states. I'll even take the number way down to 300 million firearms right now that are legal to sell through a private sale, no paperwork required, no registration. A federal universal background check law would only affect any new firearm purchase after the law went into affect unless they added a mandatory registration for every firearm and owner in the U.S. and i don't know about anyone else but they can kiss my big hairy arse before I fill out and mail some federal firearms registration form. I suspect that most all here feels the same way. Anyway, there will be 2 to 3 hundred million firearms that they have no way to prove if they were sold legally or not, even if they track a 4473 down, I sold that before the law to Bubba, Bubba sold it to Clem, Clem sold it to Bumadine etc.etc.

Any naive person who wants to argue  their pro-universal check argument to you, tell them to count to 1 million as fast as they can, then after a few months when they finish counting to 1 million, tell them to do that 100 more times. Then tell them that's 1/3 of the untraceable guns in the U.S. Maybe they will have a sudden flash of logic and see the futility of a universal background check making any difference whatsoever in murders. Well I guess a flash of logic from a gun control liberal is a futile pipe dream, sorry.

Common argument, but you don't get it.

The idea is to ferret them out by attrition over time, so that as more and more grandchildren and great grandchildren inherit them or just find them in the attic, they turn them in.

The argument that this or that won't stop Sandy Hooks isn't relevant to them -- each little building block of legislation they can achieve simply adds to the cumulative effect eventually. There will always be the next "common sense gun law".

And laws aren't even needed if "reeducation" becomes increasingly successful, and it seems to be working so far more than it's not.

Oh I know what they are trying to do but we true, traditional patriotic Americans will have to die off first. It will take many years IF they wish to be successful in disarming America. I wish more people would work to de-brainwash their children from what they are being told in school and college. If they are ever successful I will be a plastic box of ashes by then in the ground. My last wish is to be buried in my Glock case. :)

So this idiot thinks “common sense gun laws” is allowing victims to sue all the gun manufacturers (who did nothing wrong) out of existence? What a POS.

Clinton was advised today to seek out a really good Criminal Defense Attorney as soon as possible because the adviser said she is going to need one when they bring her up on Federal charges for her email problems and for lying under oath about the emails she said never existed on her private server that were considered as Top Secret. Does this woman really think this issue is going away she is more crazy than I ever imagined. She jumped on Obama a few weeks back the told him to call off his dogs on the issue and he ignored her.............

If the victim of a shooting can sue the gun manufacturer, can the victim of a DUI automobile crash sue the car maker?  The car is just as guilty as the gun.

The funny (or not) thing is that there are a lot of gun owners that oppose any new gun legislation that , beat their chest and say "from my cold dead hands" that  will STILL vote for her because she is the Democrat candidate and even though she is 100% against their way of life they will vote for her because they are multi generational democrats and she is who their union will tell them to vote for......

Well if the FBI and the Committee investigating this moves fast enough they may have to vote for her while she is behind bars. One can only hope!!!!..................... :ugh: :ugh:

Without a doubt. I can’t see me voting for a Democrat, but in my choice for President I’m looking for someone that has answers on the economy. I couldn’t care less what their stand is on guns, they can’t do much (if anything) about them; they can do something about the economy.

The Democrats are united; have the government run everything. The Republicans tend to get sidetracked and even have spinoffs into third party groups.

We all knew a gun control plan from Hillary was coming, she just waited for a tragedy to roll it out after for timing effect.  How else was it ready to go out of the box like that?

She's losing too much momentum to Bernie, and needs this issue to try and get herself back into the graces of the far left.

You guys think Hillary has a chance to go to jail...that's cute.  The Obama administration may let her fall on her sword by quietly dropping out of the race (paging Joe Biden) and fading from public view, but no way do they let her drag the party down with an arrest and a trial that will own the headlines worse than Casey Anthony.

"but no way do they let her drag the party down with an arrest and a trial that will own the headlines worse than Casey Anthony".

They went after Will Bill for his lying to the Congress about Monica and he was President so what makes anyone think she is so untouchable?

Gosh, I didn't think anyone could drag down the party worse than Obama has but I guess there are still a few that think it would I guess.. I think in all honesty the News Medias are drooling all over themselves just hoping they do serve papers on her. That would really give them something exciting to talk about. I don't know why a very close adviser and friend would tell her to hire a real good criminal attorney if they didn't see something coming at her...............jmho
