Glock 43 Accessory Advice...

Recommended Posts

Let me preface this by saying, call me naive or unprepared, but I've been buying firearms for a while now, even carried them some, but I've never felt the need to have a weapon on me until very recently... Early last week my wife and I went to a movie. They've begun searching bags at the theatre and with the rash of shootings in theaters we were already a little nervous... Down front, was a dude, alone, hat pulled low, just read sketchy... Both my wife and I noticed him, if SHE noticed him, he must have been extra sketchy... She's the least situationally aware person ever.

We stayed for the movie, and obviously, everything was fine. But it got me thinking, I don't want to be afraid to go somewhere because of what terrorists (domestic or foreign) have done. They win if I do that. So, I've begun carrying my Glock 43....

Here's where I want some help, I either want to add the Streamlight TLR-6 laser/light to it, OR I want to get XS Big Dots... Anyone have any pointers or opinions? I'm specifically thinking about darker environments, I'm pretty confident with my shooting ability in bright daylight, but you can't dictate the situation.

Thanks in advance everyone!

OK lets think this through a bit. You have a G-43 which is slimmer then the G-26 with its principle design and marketing point being concealibility. Right? So your going to negate that by putting a laser light combo setup on it? If your going to do that then reconsider carrying a G-19 instead. Now the XS-Big Dots sights and a small tactical flashlight in your pockets a different story as well as continuing to be a discretely comfortable CCW. But here's the kicker. If you don't consistently practice with the little sucker a better set of sights isn't going to justify themselves. The reason being the most likely scenario for a private citizen lethal force encounter's going to be in the 2 to 5 yard range IMHO.

I am a firm believer in seeing your target as being far more important than sight alignment. The Streamlight TLR-6 was the selling point for me to purchase a G43. I don't have the Streamlight yet; I wanted to make sure I liked the 43 first. I do have night sights on my frequently carried G27, but n/s are no replacement for a light even if it is an unattached flashlight.

I am not even one that thinks n/s are must. For most all close encounter situations that civilians will find themselves in the night sights will not be needed. Edited by Patton

I think that's kinda the point. The TLR-6 doesn't add much bulk, or even change the overall footprint of the 43 that much. But you get both a light and a laser in exchange for a few ounces of weight.

Let's consider practice and training a given, and work from there.

Yeah, the TLR-6 doesn't make the gun any harder to conceal. In fact, I wished they made such a low profile device other Glocks. Edited by Patton

Dvor had the tlr-6 for $80 for awhile. Not sure if that deal is still going. Lasers are great on small guns like the g43, but I would much rather have a pressure switch, like on a crimson trace, than a push button like the tlr-6.

Also, there's nothing wrong with having night sights AND a light/laser. For me, getting rid of the plastic sights that come with the gun would be priority #1. If you want a cheaper option, Glock will put factory night sights on your slide for $57.
