Montgomery Bell State Park, you can hike around the park but you have to stay in the designated camping area. There are short trails and some longer ones; but it isn't roughing it, there are heated bathrooms with showers in the campgrounds and it's popular with people who are in RVs. I doubt it's changed much since I worked there, so I could probably give you the low down.

+1 for Montgomery Bell. It is very nice, and well kept. Nice campgrounds as well. I live near there now, and as a kid we ran every square inch of the place!

It's just outside of Dickson, an easy click from where you are.

Mousetail Landing SP has some shelters overlooking the Tenn River. The hike is probably a half mile or a little more. This is no cabin. Is is as close to camping as you will get with a roof over your head. No electricity and screens instead of windows but the view is great.

I have gone to Rock Island State park a few times during college to camp and always had a great time there. It isn't as well known as the other parks mentioned, so it wasn't as crowded as the "Name brand" park so to speak.

+1 for Fall Creek Falls - especially if you want to do some hiking. Great scenery and good trails.

I like Cherokee Ridge http://cherokeeridgecampncabins.com/ it's on about 75 acers, I believe. So you could hike there or it's close to Pickett State Park and Big South Fork. If you decide to hike the parks I would recommend wearing hunter orange as quite a few people hunt these areas.

I've heard that there are only two backpacking trails in Fall Creek Falls. We want to go, but I don't want to be shoulder to shoulder with other campers. Have any of you guys backpacked there?

Falls Creek Falls, and Rock Island State Park. Tons of waterfalls by Rock Island. Lots of good short hikes from what I have read.
