Catoosa WMA Hog hunting

Recommended Posts

I am going to Catoosa this winter to attempt to shoot my first hog. I am going this weekend to scout the Bicolor (east) side of the WMA, which brings me to my next question. Is anyone familiar with which side Genesis (west) or Bicolor (east) has the higher population of hogs? Or are you basically at equal odds no matter where you go? Thanks for the help.

It is been to long since I hunted Catoosa.  I did most of my hunting on the Genesis side.  Saw some good sign but never saw a hog.

Good luck.

Honestly, knowing the area, I think your odds are about the same on either side.  It's more about finding the right areas they are using.  There are quite a few hogs out there.

Used to hunt Bicolor quite bit, but it's been several years. Saw quite a bit of hog sign, one of my buds saw a bunch of hogs , but never got a shot.

Probably about equal at either place.

Wish you luck.   Did see a few back then that had been killed. Mean looking cusses.

I haven't hit Catoosa yet, as my hog hunting is mostly in Florida. I'd like to hit some WMA's in Tennessee but I know nothing of them. I guess I need to head "east" and take a peek see.

Have a blessed day.

Man, hog hunting in TN is rough. They're there, but the mountain hogs we have are super elusive. Being largely nocturnal & constantly travelling makes sighting one in the woods a hell of a challenge. Finding sign is great, but it only tells you where they've been. His are very different from deer in that they don't have a 'territory' as such. They're nomadic & go where the food is. In large populations, they'll tend to stay near a solid, reliable food source but in the hills & hollers they'll just move & feed, move & feed.
