I finally figured out why my 1885 didn't like cast boolits. The expander plug in my die was too small & was compressing the less bullet in the case to the point it wouldn't obturate to bore size. Half an hour if test loading got me 22 consecutive hits on a 24" tall by 12" wide plate at 600yds.


I also shot my first deliberate group at 1000yds with my 6.5x55. The wind was tough to read, but I managed an 8" 3 shot group.
Not world being, but good enough that I'm still grinning!

Are you casting for the 6.5x55?   I'm thinking about it but didn't know what mold and what lead mixture/hardness to use

Nossir. I'm shooting Berger Hybrids. I'm not sure cast would stand up to 3150fps!
