Non Club Rifle Ranges Near Spring hill, TN ??

I just moved to the area, and wanted to go zero some rifles in, however the two ranges i can find "Maury County Gun Club"  and "Charlie Haffner Memorial Range" all seem to be gun clubs that require membership before you shoot. 

 

I don't want to commit to a club the first time I shoot, and would like to just bring some friends to shoot without expensive memberships. Is there any place to do that near Spring Hill, TN ?

I've held memberships to both ranges that you mentioned. Charlie Haffner only has 12 thru 100 yard rifle and pistol ranges. On the plus side, they're open throughout the day all week and have ample number of lanes so you probably won't have any trouble finding an available lane. However, If you're a "Tactical shooter" I can't recommend this particular range as they strongly discourage repeated followup shots and will warn you to only fire single shots. If that's your thing, Maury Co. Gun Club is going to be more to your liking. It's a little ride out there but they're very "accommodating" to tactical and full auto fire. To boot, their rifle range is set up for sighting in at 50, 100 & 200 yards. On the down side, MCGC is only open weekends 1:00 pm to dark. Both of these ranges require membership. However, I'm confident that they'll allow you temp access for a nominal fee to try them out. If you're not interested in paying an annual membership fee then you're probably going to be out of luck unless you can meet a member who'll invite you as a "guest" for a daily fee, or find someone that will allow you to shoot on their private land.

Isn't there a TWRA rifle sighting in range in Maury County?  I recall a newspaper article a few years ago.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is building a six-station rifle range on Yanahli Wildlife Management Area in Maury County. TWRA believes it will help curb random target practice and concentrate sportsmen into one area where they can safely sight-in their hunting rifles.

"This new range will provide hunters in southern Middle Tennessee with a public range much closer to them than what they have now and we believe it will help cut down on the illegal target shooting on and around Yanahli WMA,” said Steve Patrick, the manager of TWRA’s Region II.

Yes there is a small range at Yanahli. I believe it is rifle only, no pistols (although hunting pistols are probably ok?).
You have to buy a license to use the range and only open certain hours.
You also shoot through a corrugated steel pipe so make sure you have good ear protection!

TWRA's website shows the Yanahli range is open only on weekends from October to December.  By my count that's about 24 days per year.   I'm not sure why it's not open more.  I've often wondered about the legality of finding a quiet spot on the Yanahli WMA and doing some target practice with a pistol.  My guess is that it's probably extra legal at best.   Does anyone have any info on that?
