This stuff Stinks.

 

I mean really it smell really bad to me when shooting.

 

It shoots fine, good pattern,  but has a odd smell that I just can't describe.

Until this year, I last traveled in Mexico in 2000.  One thing that is very common between the two visits to two different cities, the distinct odor.  Maybe the same you smell.

it kind of has a aroma about it, not sure how to describe it. Sort of a sweet smell.  It does not smell like russian ammo

I like Aguila rimfire a lot. They offer a lot of varieties and so far for me have been about on par with CCI reliability wise. Who else makes a 60 grain .22? :D

 

They do have a bit of a special stink to them lol. Not bad but definitely different from what we are used to. Faintly sweet and ammonia-ish. Maybe it's a lack of sulphur that we are NOT smelling? This requires further testing...

TIL that when the Confederate Army was low on gunpowder, bat caves were raided for poop. Bat guano’s high nitrate content provided a key ingredient for the production of gunpowder. 

 

Don't breath the smoke too much or you will go bat sh!t crazy.  :)

I agree, kind of a sickly sweet smell.  

 

However, it shoot good so when I find it at reasonable prices, I have no issue buying it.

Since my nose has not worked well since smelling Napalm in the mornings back in the early 70's I guess that smell of the   AGUILA.22lr wouldn't bother me. As long as they hit where I aim with consistency I would like them.

 have some Russian 380 ammo KYP4 made in Novosibirsk Russia. It shoots very well but is very dirty and each time I come from the range I tear down and clean my guns because it leaves nasty black film on the actions of the guns......... :2cents: .

Probably like surplus 7.62x54r.  But no, that isn't want Agulia smells like.

Speaking of current manufacture 7.62x39 and .223. Couldn't tell ya from which factories exactly, or whether they all are the same, but a smoke whiff of some is sort of half sweet half rotten egg. Or something.

 

Seems more than just one brand though.

You'd think they would have expanded a factory or three over there to supply it here in force by now, really, cause they do manufacture it.

Hmm, I've been shooting a lot of Aguila hyper velocity .22 LR lately through my Ruger Mark II and I didnt notice a smell at all. In all fairness I was at an outdoor range AND I was too busy being amazed at the group sizes/accuracy they produced over the cheap bulk stuff that I usually shoot. :D
