Vultures legal to shoot?

If I remember correctly you have to have a permit to shoot them.

That might be something else though. Edited by gjohnsoniv

What they said... no.  Vultures are in the same category as all other raptors (hawks, kestrels, owls, etc.).  They're also one of the smartest birds out there.

I vulture stole a squirrel from me this AM and I was wandering if it is legal to shoot vulture in TN?

It's always a battle to get to the roadkill before they do!

Do you have a .22? If not, I know somebody who does.

Too many neighbors to use 22, the angle is always wrong. I use a 410. That way if the pellets go anywhere they won't do any damage.

I have a .22 pellet rifle that will knock them out of your trees.

Cool.  With the roadkill law, it can be a twofer!  Sriracha...it makes buzzard better. "I'll have the 'turf'n'dump' platter, ma'am!"

I wouldn't shoot one over it snatching a squirrel, but we have had them kill calves.  I would consider that a justifiable shoot.

TN passed a law last session very similar to the "not helping Feds enforce gun laws" regarding killing black vultures:

http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/Default.aspx?BillNumber=SB0204

In essence, it says that it is not unlawful to kill them in TN, and that we won't help the Feds enforce its law to the opposite.

- However, of course this doesn't mean the Feds can't charge and convict you.

- Also note this if for the black vulture only, not the turkey vulture.

- Also also note that a juvenile turkey vulture (which can be almost as large as an adult) looks very similar to a black vulture, as the head is the only stark difference.

So some pretty obvious advice: try not to kill any Turkey Vultures, and if you snuff any Black Vultures, keep it on the QT, eh?

Goes to show how stupid I am. I thought Buzzards/Vultures only ate dead things and had no idea they would actually kill things such as calves and other live critters..................

Oh yeah. They'll go to town on new born calves.

News interviewed a rancher a while back who said that they'll blind the cows while they are birthing so that they can get to the calf.

I'm sure there's an Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson joke hiding in here somewhere.

Has Tennessee passed a law as to where the state won't prosecute, awe never mind I don't want any warning points today.
