I was looking at buying a compact .45 and stumbled across a couple of these. Anyone have one or shot one?

A buddy of mine bought one a couple of months ago and it fired fine. For the money, the aren't a bad deal. I have heard of a couple of problems. One, I have twice had people tell me that their new Tauri had way too tall front sights. One of these people I know was not jerking the trigger and blaming it on the gun. Also, years ago at Range USA I saw a lady that had shot her Millinium (don't think it was the Pro) 45 to pieces, craked the frame so bad pieces were falling off.

I sold one last weekend. Nothing wrong with the mil pro. Shot good and had a great feel in my hand. Just never liked the trigger very much. If I needed a firearm fast and did not have a lot of money I would get another.

I have carried a PT145 daily for a couple of months now. They require an extensive cleaning before being shot the first time, as the factory puts a lot of cosmoline on them. I have about 500rds through mine with no problems. The Heinie Straight8 sights take a little getting used to. I like the SA/DA trigger if a primer fails to detonate the trigger goes to D/A and you can pull a second time. If I recall it weighs 2lbs even, when loaded with 11 rds of 230gr Golden Sabers.

I carried one for seven years. I retired it this weekend as a matter of fact. I quit counting rounds after the first few years at 3500. It never failed. It never jammed. It wasn't the most accurate and the trigger pull was loooooooong but that long pull kinda gives you a chance to back out. There is no accidents with this pistol unless you're a fing moron. Very safe pistol to carry.

I retired mine but will NEVER sell it. It got the best cleaning job of it's life and rests in my safe up front, proudly. Humble but effective, it's one of the best carry guns out there IMHO. BTW I don't know if Galco ever started making a holster for it, but the FL286 works perfect.

I have the pt111 (9mm) and like it. Its my carry weapon. the only problem I have had is every now and then (very rare) the slide does not go all the way forward after shooting a round. I think it is something I am doing and not the gun.

You may be limp wristing it from time to time. You know how you are. :D

I've put 200 rounds through my PT140 pro, not a single problem. The trigger does take some getting use to, my accuracy was very poor at first but is now improving. Good carry size gun.

I've heard stories about earlier Tauruses having problems, but my limited range experience with Taurus autos has been largely positive. I don't care for the trigger, and no, they're not 1" group guns unless we're talking 10-15 feet . . . but they definitely do the job.

Within reason, the best analogy for guns to me is cars. You get what you pay for. If you want something basic, a point-A-to-point-B grocery getter that will do what you ask it to, you get a Hondayotazukisuzu or whatever. If you want a straight-line drag car you go with a rear-wheel-drive V8 . . . in my experience guns are the same. Any decent manufacture will do what you ask it to: reliable function, decent accuracy, and general overall quality at a proportionate price. Will a $375 Taurus .45 give you the same groups at 25 yards as a $2300 Wilson? Of course not, but you're not paying that kind of money or asking it to do that, either.

Short version: Taurus makes good guns for the money. Not top of the line, but reliable, inexpensive, and with great customer service and warranty should such a need ever arise. I don't own one, but I wouldn't feel uncomfortable with one in the least.

But, was he using a 'dead-on' hold, or aiming a 'six-o'clock' hold? The Heinie sights are designed to be used dead-on. In other words, you place the target behind the front sight (or, to put it another way, you place the front sight on top of, covering up, the target), instead of placing the target just above the front sight.

I suspect using six-o'clock instead of dead-on will result in the front sight seeming "too tall", and your aim being too low.
