Needing Holster Recommendations

Recommended Posts

I am finishing training for armed security and will be working plainclothes at a college. I'm having trouble finding good holsters to meet the requirements I was given. I am planning to carry my Glock 19. I am normally wearing a button up shirt that has to be tucked in and cargo pants. My plan was to use my iwb, but those are not allowed (security director repeatedly said NO). Was told that it needs to have belt loops, and at minimum a thumb strap.

Head of security recommended an ankle holster which also has a thumb strap, but carrying a Glock 19 on the ankle isn't fun. (I have done it tho). And I don't have the funds to purchase a smaller gun at the time (closing on a house next week, moving, etc) I'm wanting to eventually get a Glock 26 or Shield and carry on ankle tho.

So does anyone have suggestions of a holster that might work, or suggestions on how to carry? I've been carrying personally for 6yrs and always carry iwb or owb and wear a shirt or jacket over it. But this has kinda thrown me for a loop :panic: , Ive been searching for hours online to not much avail. But I have created a nice list of "cool stuff" I want lol

I have thought about shoulder holsters, and wear under a button up shirt, but I would imagine they would print horribly.

Any help is appreciated.

Desantis, Galco and Gould & Goodrich all have excellent leather, thumb break OTW holsters.

I would find out where your local LEO’s go. You would probably get the same LEO discount they get; which can be pretty substantial.

Who cares. I wouldn’t think “Plain cloths Security” at a college means concealed does it? Edited by DaveTN

So IWB isn't allowed but concealment is required? Huh?

Iwb is ok I think, but not the typical clips that go around a belt, plus no thumb strap on the holster

Thanks for the links!

We have uniformed, full time security. And then ones like myself that are already employed for a certain job and are taking on security duty while at work also. Uniformed guys are open carry on a duty belt. But the plain clothes are concealed.

Sounds like you need to have another conversation with this person and find out exactly what the requirements are and why.

Yes... Because with well made leather holsters straps are rarely if ever needed...

I think he means a thumb break; which is always needed on a leather holster no matter how well it’s made if you are working the streets.

Well sure I agree with you if you referring to working the streets as in open duty carry. I was only inferring my opinion on concealed carry type holsters custom molded to a specific gun.

If in Nashville, Greene Military on Lebanon rd just down the street from the police academy. Most metro go there due to them accepting contract purchases.

not too clear on the requirements but if you need a retention system look to safari land.  ive owned and used both the ALS and SLS systems and they work great and are very fast with a little practice.

Given the description of your wardrobe limitations and the firearm in question, pretty sure this "Head of Security" has no real concept of what "concealed carry" entails.

Ask him if a simple slingshot hanging in your back pocket a' la "Dennis the Menace" is acceptable...
