Just picked up this sexy thing in a trade.  Its pretty beat up but looks damn good to me.  1962 Colt Python with the original box and test target!!

I think the plating is a bad refinish.  The box claims that this one was born blue and I tend to agree.  Called Colt and they couldn't tell me the original finish so I had to pay $100 for them to dig through the archives.  In 100 days I should know then I can send it to Colt for them to restore to factory.  The turnaround for that is around 9 months.  So a year from now I should be getting a pristine python......hopefully they'll still be in business.

Took it out last weekend and shot the hell out of it.  And it shoots like a dream.  Even convinced my son to take a turn after I mentioned the Walking Dead....go figurepython.jpg

Nice gun, but I would not recommend sending to Colt while they are in bankruptcy.  Seriously I wouldn't.  In my professional career I have worked with bankrupt companies, many strange things occur.  Even those that make it through, had strange things occur.  Example, what if you send it in, and it gets lost.  So you file a claim, the claim will not stick because they are in bankruptcy.  You would be one of the last creditors, and most of the time its pennies on the dollar recovery.

Doug Turnbull is the only person I would trust aside from Colt

I totally agree with you guys.  I came really close to being burned by a company going bankrupt (legion firearms).  should I wait to see what happens to colt or send it to someone like doug turnbull?  I'm concerned with preserving the integrity of the gun.  having a classic refinished by the manufacturer so I have paperwork showing the lineage really appeals to me.  even more so if I ever get the archive letter.

looking over the paper target, I found that the original owner had a colt 1911 I wouldn't mind having too.
