Regal movie theaters begin searching bags

Some people don't drive their own cars much, or use public transportation or mostly walk -- and have backpack on them all the time. Especially prevalent around college areas where lots of folks bus in or live on campus or nearby.

Includes even ole geezer me, btw. No theaters within my walking range, but at least half of my overall shopping (Kroger, CVS, and Walmart, etc) is done on foot, and items go in my backpack.

Yep. I'm on a motorcycle without saddlebags 90% of the time. I keep a backpack stapped to the back, but if I go in somewhere that I will be for more than a few minutes I tend to take it with me so it doesn't wander off while I'm gone. I've almost quit going to the movies. I refuse to get bent over and pay $7 dollars for a drink and $5-8 for popcorn, on top of two $12 movie tickets. I'll just watch it at home thanks.

I'm thinking....  I probably have 15+ backpacks & totes laying around. Several friends the same.  Now to fill them back-packs up with foam p-nuts and take a gang to the movies.  Let the mayhem ensue.

edit to add - so... I had a another thought on this - foam p-nuts ........setting on top of a balloon inside the bag.  Use your imagination for the rest.

This may not be a popular answer, but why in the world would anyone (and I see it every day) need to carry a backpack into a theatre or store? I see no reason for it!

 I see you're a veteran, you may remember a VA laptop being stolen from an unattended car/home with lots of your(and every other service member's) personal data on it. My bag often contains similar sensitive information that I need to do my job even when I'm away from work for a day or two. I'm sure you can appreciate that I would rather have my eyes on it than leave in an unattended car to possibly be stolen.

I've only been to a movie theater one or two times in the last 10 years, and I'd be willing to buy a ticket just to get in on this show. Great idea!

 

My  backpack has so many pockets and add on molle pouches it would take a looong time to go through it all.

I was thinking along the same lines of something sticky and momentarily sickening for the searcher to put their hands in.
Or, something sticky like (clean and unused) insulin syringes.
Kidding, of course, about the syringes.
At Camden Yards this weekend the bag searchers used latex gloves and dowel rods to probe about in fans bags, before we were herded through the metal detectors. On the plus side, you are allowed to bring your own coolers with food and drink into the ballpark.

Did they search the coolers?

They were “searching” (if you can call it that) backpacks at the Brickyard 400. We were told to have them open. The guy looked in some and not in others; I got waved through without a look. I don’t know what they were looking for, but I could have had a lot of guns and ammo in my backpack and it would have gone right through.
