Safety glasses over glasses

Recommended Posts

Most modern lenses are made of poly carbonate... the same stuff your safety glasses are made from. Ask the guys who sell your glasses just to be sure, but I just wear my regular sunglasses to the range and they work just fine.

I had my favorite pair of Oakley sunglasses fitted with prescription, tinted safety lenses.

THIS. I wore glasses for a long time before getting surgery. Two pairs of glasses is like two rubbers on a questionable college hook up. You're trying to be extra safe but you're doing it wrong. If your prescription and wallet will allow get a good pair of prescription ballistic sunglasses like Oakley's (I had many Soldiers do this in Afghanistan, they were worth their weight in gold).  You only have one set of eyes...take care of them. They are worth more than everything in your safe. Even if they are crappy. (I didn't see leaves on trees until I was in the 3rd grade, I feel your pain).

If you get z-87 safety glasses they normally come with side sheilds. You can get these in about any lens you want. ie, transition, shooter, sun, plain, etc.

Yep.  Ask the eye doc about Z87 certified lenses.  They will probably come with some really lame looking frames and side shields, but they're usually fairly cheap.  Regular polycarbonate lenses and Z87 certified lenses are not necessarily the same thing, especially if your prescription is fairly mild.

Our Club rules call for commercially made glasses and say that one's regular prescription lenses will fill the requirement but contacts won't. Once upon a time I cashed in an old pair of glass readers that came in an expensive frame. I had my doc replace the reading lenses with uncorrected industrial safety glass. I've been using them for shooting for 25 years.
