Reading PA. Old story

This is an old story about a shooting in Reading PA. What interested me was the part about the Castle Doctrine part. I didn't know that a primarily blue state had adopted that doctrine until I read this story. I also found it interesting that the families really thought they could sue the shooter. They learned different later.

Yeah, it's a misapplication of the term by the journalist or the DA whom the journalist is interviewing. Castle doctrine just means that you're presumed to be in fear of your life during an invasion of your own home (maybe business too?). The evidence can show otherwise, but it's the default starting position. It basically means that instead of the invasion/robbery victim having to prove the shooting was justified, the prosecution has to prove it was not. Even if PA has a Castle Doctrine, I don't see how that could apply to this case since it happened on the sidewalk in public. Protection from civil suits in a justified SD shooting is something else, but doesn't have a catchy name like "Castle Doctrine".

Pa adopted the "stand your ground" aspect of the Castle doctrine. Prior to 2011 there was a duty to retreat, even if you shot someone on your front porch, you could've been found in violation.

The terms are bastardized by gun grabbers to make it out that gun owners are potential criminals. Even the family of these thugs believe innocent people should retreat that way their thuggery can continue.

Ridiculous that the family wanted justice for someone stopping their criminal brethren. Since it's mostly a blue state, the criminals want to bank any way they can.

Concur, crap hole area! Pa got in the trend of bringing in immigrants (for votes of course). The results are showing up in their crime levels, welfare rolls and general degradation of once fine land.

With the collapse of Puerto Rico's economy, I expect mass migration of their populace. Pa has a huge Puerto Rican population now and I suspect the newcomers will go to other states.
