Need someone knowledgable on AK's.......

to answer a few questions for me. First, what parts would be good to get as "extras" for a Yugo M70AB2, and a Hungarian AMD-65? I'm thinking springs, extractor, firing pin, maybe a barrel? I know these rifles have a good chance of getting banned in the future and I'd like to be able to keep them in service if parts became scarce. Second, are most parts for these rifles interchangable? Third, my AMD-65 didn't come with a "loop" (don't know what to call it, sorry) on the receiver end for a sling....it's got the one toward the front of the barrel but is missing the back one....would a gunsmith be able to put one on for me?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Just about any spare parts you can come up with would be good to have. I wouldn't pay big bucks for them, but I routinely buy "lots" on ar15.com of miscellaneous AK-pattern parts. A flat-rate shipping box from a guy who wants his work bench cleared off can yield some real gems at excellent prices.

As to the sling, lots of AK's have a sling mount somewhere on the stock. I've never heard of anyone going to a 'smith to get an AK sling mount done. The beauty of the rifles is that they are very user friendly and serviceable.

gunsmith and ak? those two things just don't go together.:screwy: The beauty of the AK is that you can't break it. That being said get some springs from Wolf and a an extra trigger group. If you ever need them I'd be surprised, but might be nice to have. as far as the sling mount they just screw into the stock. Nothing difficult about it. If Hashim can overhaul and maintain his AK in a cave in the middle of a desert with just a rock, I doubt you'll have an issue.:poop:

I'm no ak expert and don't plan to get one, but the best tool i've seen yet is the front sight post adjustment tool. After helping get a couple of them sighted in, thats really the only way to do any type of windage adjustment. The sights are actually pretty good in terms of the sight picture you get, imo.

As for the sling mount screwing into the stock....the stock is a thin metal sidefolder....can't screw in a sling mount. Normally on the AMD-65's, the rear sling mount is on the left rear of the metal receiver....it is not there on this one.

Easy just strap it to the stock then.
