Ruger LC9

I picked up a Ruger LC9 on trade today and I like it so far except the mag release, it's is super tight, takes a lot of pressure to get it to release. Is this something known that will loosen up with use or should I contact Ruger about it?

I have not seen this problem with the LC9

The mag release on my LC9 is smooth and takes no  major effort.  The release hits mid way between the tip of my thumb and the joint.

I just found this week that they changed something after the initial production that affects magazines fit. I have an early model that does not like USA-manufactured magazines, but never has a problem with the Italian ones.

I found that out after having a second magazine that would come unlatched and failure to chamber a round multiple times. I thought it was my grip causing me to touch the release, but it only happened with the American magazines. With the first problem magazine, I could sometimes strip the magazine without touching the release.

So I had the opposite problem; maybe Ruger's fix for this problem has resulted in your problem. Check and see if the problem is dependent on the type of magazine. I would check that before they have you send the entire gun back. They did not admit to the problem with the first mag, but did with the second mag. They did send replacements though for both.

I can see slight differences when comparing Italian and American mags, but I cannot figure out how it affects the function.

Thanks, yeah the mag it came with is the problem one, went and bought an after market 10 rd mag and it works fine with no hard eject. so I guess ill use that one as main and second as backup if I need a 3rd ill just throw the gun at them lol

If gun throwing is part of your defensive plan, you need a Hi-Point. Those things will hurt somebody.

I bet Ruger would trade out the problem magazine if you called them.  Worst case scenario, they have you send in the whole gun.  The one time that I had to send back my whole gun, it took about 2-3 weeks time from sending it to receiving it back.

Better to use a Hi-Point as a club.  Everyone knows that Hi-Points aren't even remotely aerodynamic. Good pistols, but they don't fly worth a damn. :)

Well you won't use them very long as a club because if your not careful you'll break the frame or slide. I'm not saying it's be easy to do, just saying it can be done.

At least you would likely get a few good strikes in. If you throw one, the odds are incredibly slim that you will hit the target AND you only get one throw.. :) Edited August 12, 2015 by Moped

The American built LC9 magazines are junk! There are some lengthy discussions about this subject on the Rugerforum.net  Contact Ruger about the problem & they will probably send you an Italian (Mec-gar if not mistaken) mag at no charge or at least on exchange. Several guys have had the same problem with the American made mags & switching to the Italian mags took care of the problem. Ruger has a great CS dept. & will take care of you.
