Psychiatric Drugs and Mass Shootings

I post this with great fear and trepidation as an interesting view I haven't seen before. I don't agree with everything said and there are some areas in the article where I feel like a little pandering of gun owners is going on. BUT, it's something I haven't seen explored yet so I'll offer it on that basis. There may be something to it, or there may not be. Whatchallthank?

I've wondered about that for a long time now that there's some people who will have a very negative response to those meds, not everyone is the same, could take a depressed person and turn them into a violent one. Doctors throw out those drugs way too much I believe and not always for mental issues, sometimes for cronic pain or nerve pain. Personally, i'll never take any drug like that no matter what. I knew a girl who was prescribed one of the more common ones for mild depression, her mom had to go to her apartment and talk her out from between the bed and wall where she was hiding and crying just a short time after starting the meds. Her doctor tried to prescribe another different one but her mom talked her out of taking any more, after a while she was fine without them. Screw that crap.

This has been reported on for years. Of course not in the mainstream. Big pharma and big brother both with a cause, what is there to fear! Edited by Ugly

The FDA is suppose to be the ones that approve or disapprove drugs that should be released but they don't cause Big Pharma's have them bought off. It is only after several years of these products being allowed to be prescribed and the real side effects are finally known and lawsuits are being filed by families of patients before anything is done about them and by then Big Pharma's have made millions of dollars on them. That is what I like about my GP doctor. If someone walks into her office and says they would like to try something they saw on TV she will tell the patient they don't need it because they don't have any symptoms that would call for it. She hates the fact that Big Pharma's can what she calls practice medicine with TV commercials. She said that was the worst thing that ever happened when they allowed them to begin advertising on TV.

Psyc meds are a stopgap measure that sometimes do help patients to heal. They're also scary as heck and paitents most in need cease to take them due to the adverse effect of said meds. But then insane asylams, shock treatment and lobatomies are pretty drastic measures too. We just didn't notice them because they were locked away behind walls, doors and shame.

OK, but what's the corelation of psych drugs to mass shootings? That's the subject of the thread.

Pyscotropic drugs alter the way neurons in the brain work which can affect mood and reasoning. Some are more adversly affected then others. Things can really get intresting when someone first begins to take the mdidcation and when they cease taking the medication.

I'm no expert on this topic.  In my life, I've seen much more horrific behavior from people who wouldn't take their meds rather than ones who changed when they did.

Illegal drugs are a whole different thing.

Agreed. It seems when they go off the drugs or never get them to start with seems to be worse than being on a drug prescribed by their Dr. Some people are just messed up mentally. Treatment of the mentally ill has really improved over the years. I would prefer them on their meds than off. Just like I prefer my parents on Lipitor than not.

There is a web page somewhere that lists every mass shooting in the US and many throughout the world and shows what drugs the perp was taking.  I don't remember the link, but I saw it about a year ago.

I dont suppose the correlation could actually be between the underlying mental issues that resulted in these folks being prescribed "psych drugs" and their actions...

I have taken psychedelic drugs before and never went on a rampage,  err....  oh wait you said psychiatric drugs
