Geco .22lr ammo

Not a full range report.

But I did try the semi-auto Geco in my 702 .22lr

Seems pretty solid.  Put about 200 down range and seems pretty consistent.  None of them sounded weak.  I have a good feeling about them with my pistols.  I will try this weekend.

One think to note,  feels slippery, and when I was done my hands had a slight about of oily feeling.  I could even see a place on the stock where my hand had been that was damp.

The ammo shoots good, but that prelube they do is not needed.  My uncle suggested the factory may have that on it to keep it from corroding when stored for a long period of time.

Here is a review I found on targetsportusa that I mostly agree with.  I did not notice any misshaped ones.

When they are back in stock I might pick up a set of the bolt action to see if they have the same feel as the following reviewer seems to think that is for the Semi-autos.   I wonder if the bolt action one will have that same feel.

The ammo feels slippery, like its been lubed to run smoothly in a semi-auto feed, which is consistent with the description: semi-auto ammo. I didn't care for that lubed feeling, it was noticeable when loading my 10/22 magazine. Slippery in my fingers. All that said, it fed flawlessly. I will anticipate a lot of fouling due to the lube, so 4-star instead of 5 for performance. (Would give a 4.5 if possible.) 3-star "value" rating solely because all .22LR ammo is ridiculously expensive. 4-star quality because although the ammo did pattern nicely at 30 yards, some of the softpoints were visually just slightly misshapen out of the box. All in all, good plinking ammo. Pleased to have it.

I think I need to clean my ammo before use now.

the prelube is needed for match ammo.  high dollar match 22 lr ammo has a wax/oil coat on them.  it is needed for getting the best group during the match over the low cost ammo.  get any high dollar brand ammo like rws r100, eley tenex, lapua, sk plus, normal, etc,,, it will have the coating.  I am talking about the 15 to 20 dollars plus for a box of 50 rounds type of ammo.   geco ammo is made by ruag (old dynamit nobel ag company), the same company that makes rws ammo.  it looks like geco semi auto ammo is the same/close to the rws r-100 ammo ($16.50 a box of 50).  for matches I want my 22 lr ammo lube up for that winning group.

I only paid 5 per 50 on this geco semi. plus shipping.  I think I figured it around 10.5 cent around. give or take.
