So I finally got a truck...

Recommended Posts

It's been a long time coming, been slowly assimilating myself as a real Southerner and getting rid of all things that make me look like a city boy New Yorker that I am.

(Well, except New York Rangers stuff, still a hockey fan...)

Traded in my dangerously modified Mustang for a F250 Super Duty Lariat...sad part is, all the work I put into my V6 Mustang was undone as the 6.4L Powerstroke is turbo'ed and even stock it dyno'ed faster than my Mustang.

Guess I'll be able to eat something besides Ramen this winter! For some odd reason driving a Mustang in the snow isn't a good idea  :yum:

The wife already said the truck was hers (to include the pistols, the SBR and the shotgun). I can't ever have nice things!

Thats a very, very nice truck.congrats.

I recently priced out the truck I want and the monthly payment would be almost as much as my mortgage. New trucks are insanely expensive right now. Needless to say I'll be driving my hail damaged Corolla for the foreseeable future.

However a lift and other gaudy accourtments are hereby banned by the wife.

Didnt realize how much wierd hate there was from Chevy owners, driving a Mustang by a Camaro they wouldnt react but now anytime I pass a Silverado they shoot me a dirty look.

Guess its a Clarksville thing

I heard a lot of that Chevy vs Ford talk when I was in HS. I didn't understand it then and I don't understand it now. If USA Today is to be believed, maybe Chevy owners are just mad that their brand keeps getting outsold by Fords? I can understand that a little; stupid Glocks keep outselling my beloved CZs.

For a 33rd year, Ford's F-Series pickup took its place at the head of the top 20 best-selling vehicles in the USA, outselling all other car and truck models.

To be fair, the only reason Ford keeps the top spot is because GM splits its sales between the Chevy and GMC. If you combine the Chevy and GMC numbers together, then the top spot switches between GM and Ford over the years, though Ford does have the winning spot now and probably will continue to do so for the next several years with the new F-150.

It's really simple to explain. Neither can match a Toyota, so they gotta pick at each other. :stir:

Top Gear destroyed this argument between the Tundra, Ford, and Ram but GM was not included and did not have a truck to use or compete with. All 3 of them pulled a huge boeing plane "think it was a 727" with no real issues. It weighed 128,000lbs when they filmed the episode.

I think the endeavor weighs like 165,000? Either way, its impressive that 1500 trucks can pull something that big...but the Tundra is not the only truck that size to do something like this. Toyota did what they always do and made a much bigger deal of it and marketed it way better. No doubt about that...

Not many truck owners tow the truck's fully capacity on anything resembling a regular basis anyway, so it's all mostly marketing hype. Most truck owners use their trucks as transportation and to haul lumber and crap from Lowe's. So what it comes down to for me is reliability and features at a reasonable price. Toyota is always tops for reliability and when I was searching for a truck Ford couldn't touch the features for the price. I wouldn't buy a GM or a Chrysler vehicle on a bet. And the Tundra is the best looking truck out there, in my not so humble opinion. The Ram runs a close second, followed by Ford and GM in a very distant fourth.

If towing is the yardstick by which you measure a truck, you have no business buying one with a gas engine. You could pull my house of its blocks with a PowerStroke. If I was going to buy a diesel, I think it would have to be a Ford since Toyota dropped its plans to supply us with what we have all been wanting. But I never tow anything over a few thousand pounds, so it's Toyota all the way for me.

Lager you are correct. The largest thing I tow is my 18' bass boat. I got my F-150 because I needed a larger truck due to increase in famliy size, My tacoma was not going to cut it. I looked for a Tundra but could not find one in my price range, hell I could not find a 4 door tacoma in my price range. I do miss my Tacoma.
