sks trigger group

hey everyone i need to disassemble my sks for a good cleaning (its filthy!) and when i go to press in the button to take out the trigger group i have to hit on the screw drive to get it to pop out, but in other videos on youtube i see people just barely press it with a screw driver and it pops out, does anyone know what the issue might be and a fix? i know someone once told me about some sort of spring or something in that area that would cause this issue but i am not sure about that.

 

edit and yes the safety is up when i go to remove it

Some are very, very difficult to pop.  If it's never been removed there may still be some sticky old cosmoline in there.

I've had to hold a punch to the "button" (it's actually the top of the spring that holds the trigger group in) and smack it with a hammer while simultanously pulling outward on the trigger guard on mine.  It's a three-handed operation.

 

If you get it to a point where you know the button is not engaged you'll have to devise a way to beat outward on the trigger guard.  I believe I mounted a pipe small enough to go through the guard in a vise and then just knocked the gun off the trigger group.

I've also seen some that were impossible to get out or back in until the safety was moved to the opposite of whatever position its in that is giving you trouble as well.

Mine takes considerable force to release.  Getting it back in is more difficult than getting it out.  The youtube videos are of rifles that have been disassembled dozens of times.

My Yugo had a horrible trigger. It had so much creep, I called it a 2 breath trigger. Pull it half way, breathe, pull it the rest of the way. It was stiff, gritty, ... just bad.

After Kivarri modified it, it's a wonderful 2-stage trigger. Stage one is perfectly smooth and nearly effortless. Stage 2 is maybe 5lb (appropriate for a battle rifle), short stroke and a clean break. It's very similar to my K31 now. Tremendous improvement, worth every penny. The trigger alone cut my group sizes in half.

So I took the sks out of its case just a bit ago, just to check for rust etc which there is some on the magazine, but I took the dust cover off and took the bolt out to check that the firing pin was not gunked up and was free floating, however I found out the the firing pin has been replaced with a made in USA one and has a return spring! So looks like someone in the past had this done to prevent slam fire! Sweet free upgrade!
