my first AK47 build

that's about the only option. I had to do a little extra fitting on a couple of mine when using plastic magazines. Seems the thicker lips pushed up on the  bolt carrier keeping it from hooking the disconnector causing it to double occasionally

Sounds good. I'm looking forward to getting started on it. Tapco good enough for the trigger?

The tapco trigger is actually very good. Its the one thing they make thats that way!

If you are talented, you can mod a doublehook trigger into a hell of a short reset trigger

If you haven't already you should check out the akfiles.com lots of good folks over there and tons of info. It's probably settled down some now but in the heyday of ak building it was a pretty active place. I purchased bits and pieces of tooling from members there.

My Saiga IZ132Z came with a Tapco G2. It was a good trigger, definitely better than what came in my M92 PAP, but I like the ALG AKT trigger best.

I have the kit, barrel, and receiver and have ordered the trigger, barrel pin, rivet set, appropriate 922r parts and some magazines. Hopefully I can start putting some pieces together soon.

With the help of TGO, the AK forum and YouTube, I hope to get most of the pieces in the right spot :)

A lot of truth in this. I just completed two Hungarian under-folders, and "the files" was an invaluable resource. I still have a Polish fixed stock kit to build, and a few other projects in mind. I was a solid few months into what you might call an "AK binge" when Barry's e.o. hit, and 41p became reality. Unfortunately I've had to put the Ak's on hold, and shift my focus to the NFA variety. I'm fiending to get back to the AK's, they are addicting!

Has anyone used this tool to press the front trunion? http://www.ebay.com/itm/AK-FRONT-TRUNNION-PRESS-FIXTURE-barrel-support-gun-smith-kit-building-tool-47-74-/361527811613?hash=item542cbc9e1d:g:ycoAAOxyVaBS58gY

It's cheaper than the others I've seen but doesn't look as adjustable. Any other suggestions?

It would work find for installing the barrel assuming you have a press. I think I ended up making one from some scrap.

I ordered that tool I linked to. It looks like it will work well. I have access to a 20ton press.

I think I'm going to get the Toth Tool to squeeze the rivets, or.... is there a better way with the press?
