Fixed rear AR sight

Recommended Posts

Posted
So, I assembled my lower without any trouble, I ordered a midlength upper from PSA, and now I need a rear sight. I don't have an AR with iron sights, so this one is not going to get an optic. I am looking for suggestions on reasonably priced(cheap) rear sights that are not too cheap. I don't think I want a folding sight like a magpul or anything.
What have y'all had good luck with? Thanks, Brooks

I think a lot of this UTG sight. I've had two of them and have found them to be very well made, so well made I have trouble finding any qualitative difference between it and the LMT and RRA units it resembles. Their adjustments are crisp and solid, and their click values accurate. If you'll go to the link you'll see there are 434 customer reviews with an overall rating of about  4 1/2 stars. At under thirty bucks I think they're a steal.

Bought the DD fixed for my PSA middy from July4th.  Wasn't sure how it would be since I haven't used a fixed like that before outside of the normal A2 carry handle affair.  In short I love it!

I have a UTG on my home defense carbine. It's well made, as EssOne said. Only difference between it and another name-brand I bought (DPMS maybe?) is the UTG only has one clamp where the other has two.

Yes, the UTG is pretty much a copy of the LMT unit, which also has one clamp. The RRA unit has two. The LMT unit sells for $135, the RRA for $99. DPMS makes one too, but I've seen a lot of criticism of it.

While I prefer flip ups (it gives you optic options down the road), I find I like the Daniel Defense or Troy fixed rear sights pretty darn good. I've tried cheaper sights and found later on I would replace them with higher quality brands.

Pick up a carry handle on ebay?

The punnery is strong in this one.

For a minimalist approach (2 apertures but no elevation wheel) I've used the PSA folding rear sight on one pistol and one rifle, seems top notch. Not exactly cheap though, even on sale.

I held off on mentioning that one because I can't find it on the PSA website any more................??

if this is a range gun that will never see social work, then these are all good choices.

I'll get flamed for it and it is simply mho but if you EVER think you will have to fight for your life or defend your family or clan with this rifle, spend the extra money and buy a fighting rear sight, like the Troy or Daniels Defense (have several and like others have said, started with lower end stuff that looked great and felt great, but discovered that these things will fail on you when you need them the most)  The DD will hold zero and repeat settings accurately each and every time. It will not loosen up with heating and cooling cycles, and it will take a beating like no other and keep zero.   I know it's a lot of money, but it's worth it.

Very valid point. I am a cheapskate and it is good to hear these thoughts. Thanks

Everything is relative. With consistent cheek weld, you can hit COM at 100 yards and in with no rear site at all, so you'd certainly not be "out of the battle".
