Shootings in Chattanooga and Cleveland?!?!

I don't know who ordered it but it was at half staff on our compound on Friday when I left.

Governor Haslam ordered it for Tennessee...through Thursday at sundown, IIRC.  Friday was the first day of five; one day for each of the servicemen who lost their lives.

Our compound is federal, inside Ft Campbell, KY. So it was either Ft Campbell, or our Regimental Cdr.

I guess they'll be in 5 different states, eh?

Though Wingshooter says one might be in Nooga for some reason.

There are memorial books in Nooga funeral homes that folks can sign that will be sent to families eventually:

What is official policy for the flag to be flown at half staff?

Does the death of these servicemen qualify?

They were on the job...

the flag is flown at 1/2 on memorial day and by presidential or governor's order.  It may also fly on certain disaster dates like 9-11, for a period of time, or forever, depending.   (they actually made 9-11 a forever day by making it a "holiday" of sorts).

http://www.flagandbanner.com/flags/when_to_fly_your_American_flag_at_half_mast.asp has dates listed.

Ah, I see.  Also, to correct my previous post, the flags will fly at half-staff in Tennessee until Friday at sundown for the five servicemen.  I thought the order had begun on last Friday, but new information stated it began today.

And to further clarify mine, I have recently learned in another post that federal installations could/should lower it if within an area or region where a state has ordered them lowered.

Petty Officer Randall Smith, so I'm told. I can't find a link though

Petty Officer Randall Smith also to be buried in Chattanooga. Found a link...

http://www.newschannel9.com/news/top-stories/stories/randall-smith-second-shooting-victim-buried-at-national-cemetery-18875.shtml

NewsChannel 9 has confirmed with the director at Heritage Funeral Home in Fort Oglethorpe that Petty Officer Second Class Randall Smith will be buried at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

A date for Smith's funeral has not yet been announced, nor would the director give any further details.

Smith was wounded in the attack, and remained alive until early Saturday morning.

An escort took Smith's body to the Chattanoga National Airport on Sunday.

This announcement now means two of the Chattanooga shooting victims will be buried at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

It was announced on Monday that Marine Staff Sergeant David Wyatt will be buried there as well.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced for the other three victims. Depend on NewsChannel 9 to keep you posted as we learn more.

Flags in Cheyenne, Wyoming were at half staff today. Might've been for a few days, I just went into town today.

I wouldn't be surprised if that one guy is reprimanded for carrying.

That'll be interesting to read further on. Arming recruiters or gate guards with a sidearm might provide them with a means of fighting back against certain armed threats but less so against a determined rifleman. What's required is a significant degree of target hardening and a layered defense. The storefront recruiting stations have effectively been rendered untenable from this point forward.

Or worse yet if the DoD decides to void their life insurance and veteran benefits because they were engaged in activity against policy. But it is good to hear at least they went down fighting. If I could I would help protect them.

Who had Lancaster, Ohio as the spot for our first civilian guard negligent discharge?

http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2015/07/23/recruiting-center-shot-fired.html

From the article...

A group of armed civilians have been guarding the recruiters inside the multi-branch center since Monday.

One of them has been charged with a misdemeanor after he accidentally fired his AR-15 rifle this afternoon.

---
The shopping-center owner issued a statement this afternoon saying that after the firearm discharge, it was decided “for the safety of tenants, customers and construction personnel working in the immediate vicinity of the Military Recruiting Center, it would be best to request the removal of the armed individuals.”

Christopher A. Reed, 28, of Lancaster, was charged with discharging a firearm in the city limits, and was issued a summons to appear in Fairfield County Municipal Court on Tuesday, according to the police incident report.

Reed told the officer who responded that he was holding his AR-15 rifle in front of the military recruiting station to guard the personnel inside when someone approached him and asked if he could take a look at the weapon. Reed agreed to show him, and while he was trying to clear the ammunition from the weapon, he accidentally fired into the asphalt pavement.

The only damage was a hole in the pavement. The rifle was taken from Reed pending his appearance in court, the incident report says.
---
Reed pleaded guilty and was convicted of the same offense in 2013, and was fined $50, court records show.

biggrin.gif Yes, that's who you want showing up for guard duty.
A few idiots, and the rest of us will all be lumped into that group.

That and the fact they realized they were the deep pockets.

I have not  read all 18 pages

A Navy officer and one of the Marines murdered in last week's attack on a military center in Chattanooga fired their personal weapons at the gunman, according to a report published Wednesday.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/07/22/navy-officer-murdered-marine-fired-back-at-chattanooga-gunman/

I  a friend that is in the Navy reserves either reported to Lt. Cmdr. Timothy White or knew him.

It is still unclear whether the shots that killed Abdulazeez were fired by White, the Marine, or local police

I hope they can prove there are bullets in him from all 3 sources.

Our media, locusts that they are, have never let something like reality, or the truth, stand in the way of furthering their agenda.

Language structures thought...so there is intent to their labeling.

I hate to think my tax dollars are funding tripe such as this.
