Boycott Cheaper Than Dirt!!!

Well they were on my bad list along with many other internet shops that jacked up prices after tuesday, but this put me over the top. I received the following header in an email today that most of you probably got too, and it was followed by outrageous prices on .223 and over inflated prices on mags.

The current economic and political state has created a very volatile situation. We all fear what the future regime will bring and more importantly what it will do to our second amendment rights. Prior to and after the history making presidential election, we all have been stocking up on ammunition, assault rifle accessories, and magazines resulting in prices increasing by astronomical percentages and inventories being depleted.

We have some of the most sought after ammunition and magazines in limited supply. Stock up now before the price goes up again or the inventory is forever gone.

Please help spread the word and do not support sites like this that are preying on people's fears.

Thank you Academy for taking care of my 7.62x39 for MANY years to come.

That's just ridiculous!!!!:D

Are you guys familiar with the concept of supply and demand? The demand is high, so the suppliers can adjust pricing accordingly. The final decision, as always, is in your hands. Don't buy.

Supply and demand is just the opportunity for wholesalers and retailer to rape the American public!

Interesting how so few retailers seem to feel the demand is so extraordinarily high that that need to double prices overnight...

There's a big diff in supply-demand economics and price gouging.

Well said. As far as I know, distributor prices have gone up MAYBE 10%, and that's a high estimate. Availability sucks, for the most part, but the prices are still pretty level.

And more importantly, the dealers who use this forum--Joe, Jonathan, et al--have done what they could to absorb the cost and nudge prices higher only when necessary. As others have said, thanks for the integrity. :D

it's not the price increases so much as the scare tactic that got me on this one. Saying that the inventory will be gone forever if you don't buy now is just ridiculous.

I work retail, I completely understand supply and demand and market pricing, but lying to your customers, especially to customers who have already bought from you (their email list) to scare them into paying over inflated prices is unethical.

I bought a case of XM193 about a week before the election, I checked that guys site and he is out of a few items, but what he does have is still the same price as it was before.

I looked on CTDs site...wow his prices are crazy!

Hopefully this ammo situation will be like the little gas fiasco we had here a few months ago. Everyone will buy large amounts of ammo causing the prices to go way up over night and then sales will fall off completely because everyone has what they want and we see the prices fall through the floor.

Now that's HOPE I can agree with.

nudging the prices up bit due to cost increases is acceptable, Some of the price hikes and the ZOMFG WE'RE DOOOOOMMMMED...quick, mark that pmag up to 40.00 is gouging...plain and simple. Capitalism is turning a profit, gouging is playing on the fears of the buying public in order to turn a higher profit...at your own peril.

This too shall pass...hopefully the buying public will have a long memory

probably won't be remembered and if CTD is ever a dollar cheaper then people will buy there instead of spending their money with their brain.

A lot of the general public would rather send money to a nameless faceless website than buy in person from someone who can help them and will be there down the road.

Luckily there are still loyal customers and those that value service out there, and that what keeps me in business, as well as our local site supporting gun stores

You know, as I read this thread, I keep thinking...some folks are just validating Obama's socialist ideas. DUDE!! calm down and shop for your ammo. This is America, CTD is allowed to charge whatever they want for ammo and I can still buy it from anywhere else. This is capitalism at work, is it cool, not at all, but it is legal. If you didn't think it should be legal then maybe you DID vote for Obama? There is more than ONE place to buy your weapons and ammo. Yes, this is gouging, and as someone else siad prior, we should be thankful to all the HONEST dealers we know of because of this BB.

Well said, Angus.

But keep in mind - the flip side of that coin is that we have the freedom to refuse to shop (boycott) any business that we feel is operating incorrectly. And that is the other side of the free market pendulum that helps keeps prices in line.

Very true DRm, and I would not want that fact lost from my post.

I just don't like people saying "it's not fair", because we all know it isn't fair and no one ever said it would be.

+1 :poop: to this post and the one you posted prior.:D

BTW: I'm looking at my bookmarks online and I have at least 8 other ammo suppliers other than CTD.:D

let me make sure that i'm clear on this one. I have never said it was unfair, or illegal, or any other liberal terms.

I 1. did not vote for obama

2. understand that it is a free country which gives me the right to boycott and spread my feelings. There are many businesses that do this every day, and we have to make the best choices and help inform others.

I do however have a problem with scaring people about something they are not fully educated about for personal gain and lying to customers.

it's one thing to sell a $50 generator for $300 if there are only 5 left. It's another to tell the customer that there are only 5 left, while you have 500 in the back room.

CTD does a ton of business and unless their buyer is a complete idiot there's no way they wouldn't have 1. seen this coming and 2. prepared for it. .....although i'm sure they did both and are just using the lib media's coverage of gun price increases to fuel the fire

Holy crap - so now when someone points out blatant price gouging, showing that a business cares only about the bottom dollar and not their customers, we're soclaists and liberals who voted for Obama?

If leaping to conclusions were an Olympic event you'd win gold by a mile...

If their prices are out of line... people will buy elsewhere. Personally, I have rarely found CTD to be competetive, price-wise.

True, even when Cheaper Than Dirt is Cheaper Than Dirt, they still aren't Cheaper Than Dirt...I've bought from Cabela's, The Sportsman's Guide, and Bass Pro.

Sometimes the deal is all in what one charges for shipping.

But, I will confess, I just bought some AR mags from CTD on recommendation of a family member....and I'm sure I'll find said mags cheaper somewhere else and buy from there.

I still like to use CTD's catalog as a reference, though.:D

How many of you still buy gas at Pilot after they gouged us? If so then dont complain about CTD. When it comes to internet purchases im really not all that loyal anyways...though if AIM is only a couple bucks more I will buy from them over anyone else just because they have always treated me right. Everyone else though the low bidder is the winner.

Sorry dude, I didn't mean your post, but the posts after yours. You are absolutely right to complain about how they advertised their prices to you, I aggree 100%.

I was commenting on posts after yours about how unfair it is of them to price gouge. I aggree with that as well, it is unfair, but it is also our capitalist way of life and is why we have competition in this country. The way they e-mailed you and made the situation so "drastic" is pure crap.

I just don't like to hear people complain about 2 or 3 or however many places have acted so incorageable during times like this. Take the warning you gave, and shop somewhere else. That was the point I was trying to make is all.

Exactly...quit over-reacting...is CTD or Walmart, or Basspro the only places to get ammo? No!! So quit validating the point of the Obama the socialist is all I am saying. We are a capitalist society. They can and will charge whatever they want.

My point, buy from the more reputable, less expensive and hopefully local dealers. Quit whinning about how it isn't fair, or how they don't have the right to gouge. They have the right, and we have the right to allow them to watch the dust collect on said items.

We, as gun owners, especially as gun owners, cannot let this goofyness help support the "new regime's ideas". Just let the companies that gouge rot.

I don't care, I like Cheaper than Dirt and have been a customer of theirs for years and years. If they are not the best deal I buy somehwere else. If they are the best deal I buy from them. I get very quick service and many times their shipping rate is cheaper.

A lot of times they have a product I cannot find anywhere else.

I vote with my $$, it pretty much works out for me.
