This week Rural King is having a sale on the Taurus pt709 for $199.

I have to admit the price is tempting but, it is a Taurus and I've heard horror stories about them. So, my question is who has experience with this gun?

I don’t have any experience with it, but when word gets out there probably won’t be any left. A lot of folks can justify anything if it’s cheap. biggrin.gif

I think "Guns & Ammo" did a 9mm single-stack "shoot-out" recently (a couple of issues ago), and the 709 they had did very well.  I mean, *very* well - right up there with the big boys.  Probably worth a close look at that price...

IMO Trauri which are produced on Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays are pretty good guns. Tauri which are produced on Mondays and Fridays will usually prompt a return to the manufacturer and/or some tinkering on your part. They can be great guns or passable hammers, Taurus has good customer service, as they should considering how often their products get sent back.

That's a good price and from what I've heard its a pretty decent pistol. The primary problems Taurus has been having is with its revolvers and its inexcusable. Taurus is a first rate company and someone needs to do some house cleaning and QC upgrades there to set things to rights.

I had one. Very similar in size to the s&w shield. Shot great for a while then started giving lite primer strikes. This became more frequent. Sent back to Taurus. They tried new striker assembly.....no help. New barrel, again no help. Now after 6 wks I am getting impatient. They sent me a new pistol which I sold immediately. No more Taurus for me especially for a defensive gun. Your milage may vary, but I can't trust them.

I had a similar issue when I got one when they were brand new. Not a fan of the PT709.

I bought one a few years ago, have had no issues with it. Gave $300 +-, back then. Good shooting little gun. Did change the

front sight to corrrect a point of aim issue I had.

For $199, I'd be on it like a cheap suit.
