Question About LC9S Manual Safety

I've been pocket carrying a Ruger LC9S for about two weeks now. I specifically bought the version with the manual safety because I prefer them for pocket carry. I've noticed a couple of times that the safety somehow was switched off in the pocket during the day, with nothing but normal activity. It's doesn't have near the firmness in tension that my Sig p238 does. That thing has never accidentally been switched off, no matter what I do.

I know that if I keep my finger off the trigger, I'm still good-to-go. But I like having the extra assurance in the pocket of a manual safety that I can trust. Right now, I don't have a lot of trust. Has anyone else had this experience with the LC9S? Is there some way to make it's tension a little firmer?

I'd contact Ruger first to see if they'd put a replacement spring in your LC9s frame mounted safety but also be looking for a better pocket holster. The LC9s Pro  longer has the frame mounted safety. What your dealing with isn't an uncommon problem but the solutions require some study. A stronger safety spring equals a potentially difficult to release safety. The wrong holster either rolls and moves too much or is bulky, what are you using now?

So far I've been using a plain old Blackhawk #3 pocket holster while I've been trying to figure out what if anything I might need to order to replace it with.  I was hoping the cheap Blackhawk would work out, but I think I'm going to have to get something else.  I may try that first before calling Ruger.  That'll be my last resort.

Yep, that's one of your problems, either replace it with a good quality leather or kydex holster. Make sure either one has a stabilizing lower portion to keep it centered.

Do you think finding one that covers the safety entirely will help, or is that unnecessary?  I haven't seen any leather ones that do (though there are probably some out there), but I know of several kydex models that cover the entire slide of the gun as it rests against your leg.

Just concentrate on the holsters rigidity and stability in your pocket, if nothing else buy some kydex and make your own its pretty easy to do so.

I use a Desantis superfly pocket holster and never had trouble with the safety disengaging
