Letter from Department of Safety and Homeland Security

As stated above received one today. I had submitted my HCP renewal the first of June and got the letter today asking for info basically found on a 4473 form. The letter stated they did not have this information on hand.

Kind of surprising to me since the info has not changed for over 15 years except for age, weight and hair.

Anyone else get this type letter on renewal for their HCP?

No, no letter, mine went pretty much according to par. Could they have made a change in the form?

Doesn't make much sense, just trying to find a straw to grab hold of.

I thought TBI/NICS did background and renewal apps. Is the department of safety and Homeland Security the same in TN?

Pardon my confusion,

The Department of Safety and Homeland Security (previously simply The Department of Safety) are the folks that issue drivers' licenses.  They also issue handgun carry permits.  The TBI handles TICS to do background checks when purchasing a firearm and almost certainly provides info to the Department of Safety regarding the eligibility of an individual for an hcp but doesn't issue handgun carry permits.

I still don't understand what the letter is asking for. Isn't everything it's asking for already on the HCP app?

I guess that's what I don't understand. Why Homeland security is sending a/the letter?

I missed a thread 5-6 below this one that explains the homeland security changes. Hard to keep up sometimes.

No problem renewing mine back in April, but my wife renews in Oct and still has not got renewal in the mail.

You need to call or go down there. I put my renewal in back in November and finally in March I called every day and raised hell and finally some girl told me they implemented a new system and lost a bunch of information (and since they don't know what they lost they didn't have any way to notify people). She took my information down and in 7 days it was in the mail.

That's what they get for letting Moms against Guns implement the new program instead of a professional installation firm install it.........

Well I received my new HCP 7-22-15. So I guess they do not think I am a criminal or nut job.

The new ones are thinner and seem more like paper than the one I had.

Just got mine renewed about a week ago.  I submitted the renewal application on 6-18-2015 so it took about a month.

US Dept of Homeland Security wants every state and county to have a "homeland security" so TN created a separate group then put it with the Dept of Safety; however, TEMA (the state's equivalent of FEMA) is a part of the Military Dept not Safety and Homeland Security.   Goes back to Civil Defense during the Cold War.

I had the same type of problem. They told me that the app was missing when the renewal was submitted. I gave the app to the person at the DMV in Dickson and she went over it and took my picture. A couple of weeks later, I got the letter. I ended up calling them to discuss it and the person gave me a fax number. I faxed the app and also mailed it. About a month later, I got my permit. It's interesting that others had similar issues.
