I have used my .460 Smith on Hogs and its almost too much gun!! (here come the flames) i have had a number of gut shots and never found the Hogs. Its one HELL of a round, I believe it has the highest velocity of any other handgun cartridge!

Back many years ago my little brother use to hunt Catoosa with guide and dogs for hogs before they stopped allowing it. He hunted several years and killed 3 hogs in that time. When he had to shoot the last one from up a tree the hog put him up he decided to quit going. His weapon of choice was Ruger Black Hawk single action 44 mag with a 10.5 inch barrel.

I deer hunt with handguns, something I will share is to use a rest if at all possible. A handgun is 6 times harder to shoot accurately than a rifle. I use a polecat monopod that has adjustable height for a sitting to standing position. Practice a lot and shoot at a distance that you are very sure you can put the animal out in a humane way. I will take a 300 yd shot with my rifle, but only 150 on a handgun shot and then depends on all other factors. Handgun hunting is very addictive, I shot a nice 6 point as my first handgun buck and he is hanging out behind me on the wall. I want to do some predator hunting too, there is a guy on the outdoor channel that handgun hunts for foxes with a .22 magnum revolver, I would like a .223 for predators. Have fun!!

Yeah a rest to shoot off is a necessity. I ended up put an Aimpoint comp M2 on since my Simmons pro hunter only lasted 18 rounds. Gonna practice a lot. 100 yards or so will be my max range.

Congratulations Shaun, that's a good looking TC Encore.

I have three of the TC Contenders with an assortment of pistol and rifle barrels. But none in the 460 S&W. What a cannon! Bet you go through a pound of powder pretty quick! It ought to get the job done for you. Anxious to see that first buck you take with it.

Send an after action report when you get something, I'm interested to hear about it.  I decided to take up handgun deer hunting this year, but went with a Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter in .44 Mag
