We have the opportunity to buy a few hundred thousand rounds of quality, factory loaded XM193 type.

Wondering what the level of interest is, if any.

Looking at roughly $450 per 1,000.

Very interested in some XM193, however at 450 per thousand I'm pretty sure I can still get it from several suppliers for the 350-420 range before shipping, 450 would be a little much for a few hundred thousand round group buy. If you can get it under 400 out the door I would definitly be interested, and might make the drive to knoxville for 4-5k.

I didn't spend a lot of time searching, but the few sites I just looked at had 1,000 rounds for about $450. If you can find it for $350, I'd buy all you can get.

There is a reason you rarely see group buys on ammo. The profit margin isn't very good to begin with. I've never been involved in a group buy with 10K+ rounds of ammo, but I'm guessing the profit margin is still fairly slim, especially with such a demand for the ammo at this time.

When I was up at Bud's last week they had PMC 55gr cases (1000rd) for $320, I'd rather get in on a deal like that here in knoxville, something brass cased reloadable that I can almost afford to shoot. I think it was $339 and change out the door with KY sales tax. With all due respect, I'd do alot more business with CCA if ammo prices were more competitive. Last time I saw the same case of ammo there is was priced at $425. I'll gladly pay a bit of a premium to support local business and keep gun shops in town, but I can't bring myself to pay that much.

www.gun-deals.com/ammo.php palmetto state armory has PMC brass cased .223 for 350/1000, J and C sales has XM193 us made for 350 per thousand in stock, And widener's in johnson city, tn has privi partisan XM193 for 360/1000 ..... That's just the 350-360 range, there are plenty with less than 450 per thousand, now if we were talking official M193 or M855 I would say heck yeah 450 in state out the door is a good deal, but for XM193 .... it's still out there, and my guess is the "run" on ammo will slow as christmas approaches, and most likely will be normal until the dem's actually propose legislation .... I will be loading up, but not at inflated prices, just little by little at good prices. The mass panic is how people get ripped, look at the gas mess than happened in tennessee over just 1 rumor.

Not to thread dump, if you wanna do a group buy at 450/1000 go ahead, it's not a bad price, I'm just personally not interested in it at that price point unless there's something making that ammo better.....however if you have the cash buy all you can and store for 2 years, and retire with the 500% markup you get to charge  Just my .02

Is there a difference between M193 and XM193?

I saw an explaination of it in a thread on another forum, but now I can't find it. Someone posted an email from a guy at the Lake City ammo plant. Both are loaded to M193 specs. The "X" denotes contract overruns from manufacturing. Basically, rounds that did not make the cut for contract orders. You may see cases with slight imperfections in appearance (dents, dings, scratches, etc..). Nothing serious, and the ammo is just fine to shoot.

Ok. If that's the case, the $450/1000 isn't looking that great. I've seen all kinds of M193 for a bit under $400. A customer of mine just picked up 1000 rounds of M193 for about $360, IIRC.

I agree. $450 per K is high for XM193, but I have seen other places selling it for about the same price. Personally, I quit buying when prices went over $300/K for M193 spec ammo. Now, Wolf ammo is approaching that price.

Let me clarify something: You may see slight imperfections on XM type ammo. Most of the Lake City XM stuff I have seen has been pretty much in pristine condition. There is a level below that which is noted by the letters "PD", like XM193PD. PD ammo will usually be dinged up, and have small dents. It is still good ammo to shoot.

I think Federal just keeps the machines running these days while filling their military orders knowing that they can make some nice profits on the overrun, once the military order is filled it doesn't cost them much extra to pump out some extra for the civilian market.

I'm talking about Lake City brass. New production (from what has been quoted to me).
