A question for all you leather workers out there....

In this picture you'll see a piece of leather with a snap on it that helps secure the kukri in the sheath. I know nothing about leather so let me ask this stupid question. How do you fasten the male end of the snap to the kydex sheath? I realize it would have to attached through an eyelet. I mean it's not like fastening it to leather so how do you adapt/make it work on kydex? Any pictures would be awesome. Thanks.

I might be mistaken, but you should be able to just drill your hole and set it like you would any other time.  Other than that you might be able to get away with using a t-nut and machine screw.  I know I've seen some snaps set with screws on saddles before.

For traditional line 24 snaps the 0.06" kydex is so thin that you'll actually leave more room to mushroom out the post, which should last longer. On the last sheath I made I used a t-nut and a hex head screw like gjohnsoniv suggested. It's much sturdier in the long run, but it's darn hard to find a screw head that will go into the recess of the male stud and not stick up. I had to carry the stud down to Lowe's and dig through the screws until I found one that fit. I wound up having to grind off some of the head of the screw to get the profile low enough to sort of countersink down into the snap.

I wish I'd made a note of what t-nut and screw I used, but I hope that helps. Finding the right hardware is always the hardest part of any project I tackle.

A double set of Sam Brown buttons with elastic cord to pull the strap back when released might be an easier way to go. The Sam Brown buttons just screw together anyway. Here's a pic of what I mean.
