bho and concealed carry

I may be posting this in the wrong forum as it pertains to about 3 of our forums here.

At this point, it's a rumor, but.... national ban on concealed carry???

upporting it is an insider DC tip that his people are seriously considering a federal ban or restriction on "right to carry" laws. Exactly where the constitutional power to enact such a measure is to be found is less than clear to me. But so are a lot of other things like that.

Since CCW laws are solely a individual state's issue, I would be interested to see how they could pull it off. The only Federal CCW law I am aware of is LEOSA, but doing away with that would only effect law enforcement officers.

Considering the vast range of things which "interstate commerce" has been perverted to cover, I'm sure they could find a way. Failing that, they could always just take the national speed limit approach and tie federal funding to the measure.

You guys do know he can't just write an EO for anything he wants, right?

"Can't" and "is not legally empowered to" are not the same thing. Lots of government entities do things they aren't supposed to.

What federal statute is in existence that allows him to use an EO to ban CCW licenses?

I don't see where anyone mentioned the possibility of using an EO prior to your post...

You think Congress will get behind this?

I think 1994 is still a fresh lesson and the Dems won't touch firearms with a 10' pole.

Does that mean we should sit idly by and wait? No. Does that mean we ought to actually wait until there's reason to panic/get pissed to do so? I'd say yes...

Nope, I don't think they'd get behind this at all. While I wouldn't be surprised if BHO has the desire to eliminate carry completely, I'm less confident that he has the means to do so. But as you said, that's no reason to discount the possibility. Vigilance will be our best friend in the coming years. I see it as our job to make sure our reps are reminded frequently that supporting gun control will have a negative effect on their careers.

Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

screwed....

Reading between the lines, he wants to allow politicians access to gun trace information (which is what the Tiahrt amendment stopped).

I'm not sure where the 'illegal arms trade' comes into it - sounds like UN speak for 'shutting down manufacturers'.

'Commonsense measures' - We won't like it but they know whats' good for us. Keeping guns away from children and criminals; storage requirements.

Closing the gun show loophole might as well be 'closing gun shows'.

Making guns in this country childproof - smart gun technology requirements? 20 pound trigger pulls?

Anyone who denies their end goal is zero civilian gun ownership is deluded.

Again - we must remain vigilant - but BHO can do very little without congress, and they're scared to death of touching gun rights.

Keep writing your federal elected representatives and remind them we are a vocal force to be reckoned with...

I agree that we need to keep writing our elected officials. While you're reminding them, remember that your a well armed lamb. I don't want to wake up one morning and realize all that I have left is harsh language. At that point, it will only get you a butt stock to the stomach and a kick in the ribs. Yeah, I know, it could NEVER happen here.

In my opinion, BHO, PBUH, will not have enough interference from Congress on some issues. You have appeasers, infringers, fawners, whatever you want to call them, on both sides of the aisle. I already feel as if my personal liberties are being discussed over four hundred dollar dinners and fine cigars, with people laughing about me (as in us) and "WTF can they do about it!" being said in a derisive tone. Insert sarcastic laughter here. People I talk to on a daily basis are telling me to give him a chance, "You'll see." Hey, I don't want to see, alright? I really don't have faith in elected officials. I feel that all of them are power hungry. Too many will hitch their wagon's to a rising star, just for more power, more promises to enrich them, more personal freedoms. I wonder how many feifdoms BHO, PBUH, is promising to moderates in return for votes? I, for one, will not subject myself to vassalage to a man whose mores I abhor.

Excellent post, simply quoted as it's the truth.

My entire family is democrat. Pretty much everyone at my work is democrat. All of them sport the Obama stickers on their car. I've heard "Just give him a chance to prove himself" more than I care to say. Where does it say that I have to give him any leeway? That I have to give him a chance? I agree with Suntzu. When it comes to my liberty, my freedom, my way of life, I'm not giving him a damn thing. To quote the greatest action movie ever created (300): "Give them nothing, but take from them everything."

If he gets one supreme court justice in place BO can do about anything he pleases.

With the two most likely openings in the SCOTUS coming as the result of the retirement of liberal judges, the balance of power in the SCOTUS isn't nearly as much of a concern as the appointment of liberals in the lower courts.
