I was thinking about going to the next gun show in Louisville, Ky and was wondering what was involved in a Tennessee resident purchasing a handgun at one of these shows. Anyone know?

If I am not mistaken......you can purchase a long gun in an adjoining state without having to go through a Tennessee FFL, but a handgun must be transferred to a TN FFL before taking possession. Someone confirm or correct this please....Thanks.

That is correct, you would have to have the handgun shipped to a FFl in TN.

yep..that's exactly right.

sorry RDL..you'll have to pay extra if you want to buy out of state.

trust me, I wanted to buy a couple of Chinese Mauser broomhandle pistols once, but it would have been more than I wanted to spend to send them to my home gunshop.

I think it is Dec. 13-14 in Louisville. It is supposed to be one of the biggest shows around.

Now this is just a question (dumb one maybe), why can't he find a TN FFL that is willing to do the transferr right there on the spot?

A Tennessee FFL can only transfer the gun directly to him from the FFL's licensed premises or a TN gun show.

If you buy a handgun from an FFL at the gun show, he can ship it to you your FFL at a minimum cost via the USPS - something like $13/15 bucks, plus his fee, maybe a total of $25/30 bucks. If you have a good relationship with your FFL, he might let you carry a signed copy of his license to give to the seller for a fast transaction. Good luck.
