enfield problem

see there was a 303 discussion on the board and thought I would ask some advie if there are any enfield experts out there. Have a british enfield rifle and it has an aspect that I am really concerned about. If I cycle the action, gun is ready to fire, and I "milk" the trigger, I.E. pull back a bit but do not fire, the bolt will slowly but surely work out of battery and fly back. Anyone ever experienced this before? i am thinking that this all matching rifle may be a parts gun:confused:

Check your bolt. It may be put together wrong. take it apart and inspect it to make sure that it's not over-worn in any areas or that it's been modified.

also check the stock, where the bolt locks in to ensure that IT isn't over worn or has been modified.

without pictures or the rifle, I couldn't tell you what the problem is. if it's a guaranteed matching rifle, it may be just worn..or it may be one of those canadian POS Enfields.

will try and post pics of rifle this weekend. Dont know much about enfields as to the markings, so cant say if canadian or other. It does have a #3 bolt face, so "worn" may be the issue. A shame, its a good looking rifle otherwise

when inspecting the bolt face, if its really worn, you may want to get it to a gunsmith and get it miked to see if its' still serviceable. don't want it to blow up in your face, as if it does, it will send the firing pin pretty much right back into your eye/cheek area.

I suggest that you look around for a different bolt. save that bolt but find another to use if you want to keep the gun as a shooter...and by all means, post up close up pictures of the bolt, bolt face, bedding on the stock, and all pertinent areas of the rifle.
