Brian Williams, MSNBC

Recommended Posts

Brian Williams was replaced as NBC News anchor today and shipped off to MSNBC to handle breaking news and special reports.  What do you guys think is going on with all this?

Just them lyin' eyes and all. Guess the brass decided public opinion wouldn't deign to give him back his gravitas, unless he "earns it back" on the farm club.

Nobody cares if MSNBC is lying. In fact, that's why their audience tunes in.

There will never be another Walter Cronkite.

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/matthew-sheffield/2012/05/22/new-bio-reveals-former-cbs-anchor-walter-cronkite-far-more-biased

A key element to this fairy tale is the idea that the journalistic icons of the time, like CBS’s Walter Cronkite, were Olympian figures who would never stoop to play favorites or inject ideology into the news," Tobin writes.

"But this view is totally false. As media news analyst Howard Kurtz writes in the Daily Beast, a new biography of Cronkite by Douglas Brinkley spills the beans on the godlike anchorman’s unethical practices, including blatant partisanship that would make the conservative talkers on Fox and the liberals on MSNBC blush. It wasn’t Fox that poisoned the well of journalism, as former New York Times editor Bill Keller recently alleged. Fox and other such outlets were brought into existence in an effort to balance a journalistic establishment that was already tilting heavily to the left. The real sin here is not bias or even partisanship but the pretense of fairness that Cronkite exemplified.”

I have no doubt that Cronkite lied to us also.

Yep. He projected a good grandfatherly image personified but was actually amazingly liberal. FWIW for all of the medias pandering about ethical conduct and truthfulness they've seldom done so. Over time I've been amused at the backstories of instructional or self justification by media once caught in a lie. As to Brian Williams and his self delusions I suspect a mutually beneficial deal was agreed upon so that he gets his pre-agreed contract money and NBC doesn't pay more money in litigation. What's most telling he is the total lack of shame and only irritation at being caught out in the deceit.

Journalism still has worth. There just is no journalism.

Used to be they reported the news. X happened today in Y because of Z. Maybe now and then you'd hear the personal opinion and feelings of the reporter but it was very rare.....now all you get is their personal opinion, feelings and their reaction to X happening in Y and they will tell you who Z is that is to blame.

Or maybe they were just better at disguising their bias?

Don't watch NBC and definitely don't watch MSNBC.  Foxnews is where its at!  Don't really care anything about Brian Williams!

And do you think Fox doesn't do the exact same thing as the other news outlets?

Can't say, but at least the needle is slanted in the "right" direction, vs. the far "left".  Plus Fox has better and more eye candy
