If you can’t place your finger on the trigger without the weapon discharging when you want it to, one of three things is happening.
1. They are using the wrong weapon for the application.
2. They don’t have enough experience with the weapon.
3. Something is wrong with the weapon.
We never get to hear the details of what the Officer/person said happened.

That's just Darwin's consequence, I meant administrative.  Suffering one shouldn't get you off the hook for the other.

Oh there's consequences, at the least a written reprimand and a lot of remedial firearms training. With what the LASO Deputies are reported to have done you can count on suspension time and remedial training. With either of the above the officer's not going to be eligible for promotion for a year or more. The will at the least lose off duty color of law employment status while on suspension and could lose it for a year. Its a pretty serious business in accredited agencies and other officers I've know report active stupid stuff like that pretty quick.

It still isn't a massive problem by any stretch of the imagination. We're only talking about seven cases out of a force of 10,000 officers. And I absolutely second btq96r's comments in reply number 52. The people having the ND's are getting their fannies racked good for it. Edited June 16, 2015 by EssOne

7 out of 10,000 seems high to me. There is zero reason for one ND. I bet if I had a ND at work I would be terminated. I would be very upset if I was a citizen there.

I had a Colt Python many moons ago with a 'too light' SA trigger, it would fire before I was ready for it to or if I didn't have enough pressure on the trigger it would de-cock which was embarrassing. I had UD's (unintentional discharges) with it but not a ND (negligent discharge) because the weapon was pointed down range toward the target before I even cocked the hammer. I have a good habit of having the weapon pointed downrange towards a target before I cock the hammer on a revolver, take the safety off a semi, and touch the trigger of all weapons. The most that can happen if you have a UD is you miss your target. I had a gunsmith replace the seer on that Python, he agreed it was too light, I missed the target a few times because of that but no one was hurt or killed.
