New Tennessee gun law passes

Recommended Posts

So I have to come out and say " I'm proud to live in tennessee" a bunch of new laws passed for gun rights. One you can carry in a park now which I'm neutral on that one but the one I did find appealing was you can now get a lifetime carrying permit which goes into effect July 1st. There is one that I am glad got turned down and that was you had the right to open carry without a permit....my reason behind that is I think you should have to go to the class so you know what you can and can not do and how to handle a situation. If the law did pass there would be so many lawsuits in court it would be unreal.

You belong to Bloomberg's group?

And btw, you have to have that lifetime permit for ~40 years before it's a price break.

What is your view of the "shall not be infringed" part of the Second Amendment? :ugh:

I came from a state that had constitutional open carry long before you could conceal. Strangely there were not a bunch of law suits or blood running down the streets.
In addition the class you take for your permit is a joke.

Kentucky has had open carry without a permit at least since I started owning handguns in the 70's. No lawsuits or blood in the streets there in all that time. What makes Tennessee different?

I view it just like it's meant " a law not to be broken"

Read it again. It means the federal government shall not place restrictions against owning or carrying a firearm. I don't feel the state should either.

Mine wasn't.  We did it in the instructors home and his wife made fresh cookies and lemonade.  It was awesome!

I think some people need to go to a class so they know where to post threads like this. Why post this under handguns?  :stir:

Incrementalism works.

Over the last few years we've made great strides in getting our weapons laws headed in the right direction.  If we keep going, constitutional carry might very well happen.

TICS exemption for HCP holders should be, IMHO, next on the list for next year.

Most states have open carry (and several now with concealed carry) without a permit… several states that require a permit also require no training to get the permit.  The blood and lawsuits aren't flowing.

The biggest problem in TN is that a "No Gun" sign should NOT have force of law… its ridiculous.  Its like having a "no food/drinks" sign up and someone getting arrested for having a candy bar in their pocket.  If someone wants to kick someone out for having a gun or a candy bar or whatever… then let them kick them out, not some blanket sign that has force of law.

If the state really wanted to make some money, they'd institute a "lifetime TICS fee". They'd make money and some of y'all would be in the black in a couple of weeks.

I agree, but then how are they going to get their $10.

I will make sure to find me a knife fighting class before I use one for self defense. Matter of fact I don't think I have enough gun training to carry. After all being in the military, being in law enforcement as well as carrying a firearm for work in hostile environments probably isn't enough for your requirements.

Personally the ONLY people who should not be allowed are those who have a proven VIOLENT history. I don't care if someone is a felon or bat#### crazy as long as they are not violent they should be able to use any means necessary, including fully automatic grenade launching machine guns, to protect themselves even if they do not have a single second of training.

You, my friend, are the worst kind of gun owner. One that wants to limits other gun owners for their own reasons.

Just make sure the sharp side goes to the meat. You been schooled :)

You might want to look up the definition of infringed.

Haha wow people you do realize I posted this just to see how many of you ignorant a#/^ would come off with some way of turning it around congrats to everyone....everyone should have some training not saying you would have to get a permit but there are idiots out there that think they can see a gun fight going on and just cause they have a right to carry with out a permit that they can jump right in....that's almost the first thing they teach you is how to know when to engage not saying everyone is an idiot....the class should be free but mandatory. I guarantee that at least 25% of the people who are fixing to take the permit class or wanting to have no idea of the castle law. So they do need the class.

.........there are those that certainly benefit from a good HCP class.  When one can and cannot use deadly force, etc. etc.  but obviously from the OP we need some sort of mandatory keyboard training before one posts on the internet, and especially on TGO :stir:
