What to oil piston with?

Recommended Posts

MObile 1 synthetic.  I bought two quarts of some oddball weight (0w-15) at Walmart a few years ago because they were red tagged half price.  For about $10 I have a half gallon of REALLY good lube and I use it on guns and my presses.  Unless I pull a full on Caster and spill it, it will last for whats left of my life.

Mine has an actual grease zirc.  I would use any good quality grease lightly.  Oil will work, but it won't last as long.

Good point. My Dillon has a grease zirc but the oil question got me thinking about my Lee. The soap in grease will definitely help keep it from drying and to keep it in place better.

You would think an IT guy would have gone to Google first, but I ain't got the smarts apparently. Dillon recommends 30 weight oil for the shaft and grease for the pivot pins. I never noticed it had a grease zerk before. Guess I'll get a grease gun to ensure the pivot pins are sufficiently lubricated. Thanks for the responses, folks.

Squirt some mobil 1 on my 650 pretty often. but i also load a metric crap ton. i take it apart every couple days of use and give it a complete cleaning and re-oil. but, in the last 10 years of loading, mobil 1 has done me proud.

note: 5w30 is the weight i use.

I have been using a product call Fluid Film for about 25 years and have never had an issue with it. I have used it to lubricate all of my high end Bait caster Shimano Fishing Reels for 20+ years and used it on all of my firearms before then and it has always performed perfectly. I buy mine at Tractor Supply but have seen it in Lowes also.........................jmho

I did the same thing years ago. 0W-15 mobil one synthetic.  I also use K&G Coatings (the maker of the original "GunKote" products ) dry molyendum powder mixed with the oil. Lubricity is off the charts!

Lubricity? I hope you're wearing a purple hat with a big feather in it when you use such a pimp word.
