gjohnsoniv is good with leather.

Glock 23 or 26 in my case. S&W 686 6" (since no one sells them in a decent price range)

You still have to do a good bit of hand fitting with fingers and rounded edge pressure tools. There's no substitute for a pressure mold utilizing weight or hydraulics but time and paitance can do really good things.

anything that is made by hand or takes the skill of using your hands always takes time and patience, I remember the times when I would be rushed in to a repair of an engine or refer unit and I would end up busting a knuckle worse that it had to be. I hope to have gone through enough reading and viewing to avoid to many mistakes, but know that I will make some. But I do have some ideas in mind that might make for a better product as far as holsters, with belts you cant fix what's done the wheel has been made and ya cant improve to much.

Just completed. The dye didn't take evenly, my only complaint.

I am sure my screen is not color corrected but I cant see any blotches, looks good to me what sis you use to stitch the holster with?

Artificial sinew.  The light and dark spots are there. Shoulda probably dyed it before I wet formed it.  I'm still learning. Gonna make a pancake for my RIA commander next.

I built a press from plywood, woodworking clamps, and a few layers of a cut-up foam camping mat.  I put the gun I want the holster for in a couple of heavy-duty ziplock bags and press with either wet leather or warm/hot (cheap heat gun from Harbor Freight) kydex.  Works pretty well for both.

BigK does a hella job on making some holsters! He made one for my 325NG N frame wheel gun that is just one of the best IWB holsters that I own! 

 

 

 

 

I built a sandwich press for forming the Kydex, but I prefer to shape by hand using a heat gun and some thick leather gloves.

I have had some success finding some patterns on the web, but, one of things that I have found a little confusing is with the front part of the pattern.  Shouldn't the front part of a pattern be a little larger to compensate for the gun when working with leather?  With kydex it molds around the gun due to the nature of the product, but with leather that is a little different story.  Thanks in advance.

I'd be very grateful if you'd share the links you found to downloadable patterns. I've had to resort to screen capturing stills from YouTube and printing them off...not easy at all to get the scale right.
