"Not sure if a revolver by the bedside would be enough."

I agree. However, a suppressed SBR with a 30 round mag in 9mm or 300 Blackout would even up the odds a tad.  Be a lot easier on the ear drums, also.

That's what I had by my bed!  Well, until the canoe accident.

Wish there was a little more info on this story. Looks like they were after more than just some earrings and petty cash. I would guess this is gang related activity. They seem somewhat organized in the entry method too. I like your idea of bedside gun though.

There is more to this story. They knew what they were after, that is why they went armed. They knew the homeowner was armed, that is why they huddled at the door like cowards.

I can promise this. They would have spent a lot more time just trying to kick my door in and one or two may break a bone of two on my door which in turn would give me plenty of time to prepare for their entry had they even been successful at kicking my door in to start with. I have an all metal door with knob lock and three deadbolts at 3 different levels of the door and they are the extra long tie bolts that go in the door jam. All I can tell anyone trying to kick my door in is good luck. My night stand gun is my Model 85 Bersa with 1 in the tube and 14 more in magazine. ......................

Is your jamb/frame reinforced?

If you watch the video, it is the door frame/jamb that gives. No amount of locks would prevent that.

It took them 3 times before they finally got though that door but you are right the frame is more important then the door itself.

Thanks

bersa is the frame steel? if not 3 locks help but it's still going to give in. I'm suprised it took them three kicks to get in. I had to kick in my exterior garage door to get my keys one day (long story but it involved having to get a pet to an emegency vet) with deadbolt and knob lock it took me one kick and the frame blew apart. I just hope that if it ever happens to me I hear it and acually have a chance to protect my family. I keep the AR pistol by the bed, 1 in the tube, 29 in the mag.

Why stop at 29?  It's that one you don't have that you will need later.  I always put one in the chamber and load another into the mag so I have the max I can have, whether it be my Glock or AR.  Door security is great, specially the frame but I think the best thing to have is an early warning that someone or something is approaching your door.  I have seen many put those driveway alarms out so they know when someone is coming, but if fido barks when someone approaches that's good too because in those situations every second counts.

The Cabin I live in is all concrete Block and yea the door frame is metal and attached to the Blocks and the dead bolts go into the blocks through the door frame. This house is built quite well. All the windows except 2 are slide type and to small for an average man to fit through. The other two have been painted shut for many years and have to break them to get in or out. I locked my self out about 3 months ago and had to call a buddy to bring my spare keys to let me in my own house. I have 1 friend I trust with my life and my house so he has back up keys to everything I have locks on. He is also the executive to my Will so he has safe combination where all my papers are kept also. I trust him more than family...................

Thanks for posting the article.

I will just add to what others said. When my neighbor's door was kicked in back in march the door was 100% fine while the frame was ruined.
