Attn, TN Highway Patrol

First of all Thank you for the sacrifice you make for the community. I understand that most Police Officers have a good heart and want to help your community. I hope that I am not in violation of any forum guidelines with my next question. I am very interested in becoming a mechanic for the TN Highway Patrol. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find any information if such a job even exists. I have recently moved to TN, and at one time I was a mechanic for the Indiana State Police. I have also been a mechanic for over 15 years. If anyone has any information that would help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

You would need to look at TN state jobs on the state's human resources website. I'm sure they have several mechanics on top of using TDOC inmate workers. I'm pretty sure the mechanics aren't THP specific but work for Dept. of General Services.

Their basic service work is done at TDOT vehicle maintenance garages. The starting pay sucks. Otherwise, it seems to be a pretty good gig.

I believe major work is done at dealerships.

I know when a lot of bids are requested for new vehicles part of the contract price per vehicle includes that vehicle's maintenance. At least that is the way departments do it. I have no clue if TDOT or THP does it that was as well.

You should probably look at working for a municipality or county government. If your a certified diesel mechanic then you can readily find a job working on school buses or heavy trucks.
