Anyone have a NEW Improved Remington R51?

Nope, but I sure hope Remington got their stuff together on the R51 this time around. I would love to see a success this time.

There was a big display for the R51 at the NRA show. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but that was one ugly gun.

Why would anyone give this massive flop another chance? It doesn't offer anything over the competition and I agree that it's ugly as sin.

I don't care for its looks and probably won't even consider buying one but I'd love to see Big Green get it's game back.

I am more interested in seeing how the gun runs with that full backstrap safety. I like that concept.  I had a HK P7 but after some hand surgery I couldn't safely use the pistol any longer, getting sympathetic trigger pull while squeezing the front strap safety.  I only carry a Glock and/or Keltec .32  so ugly doesn't bother me.  I'll give the R51 a look if it proves reliable and durable.

I don't find it ugly, by any means. But, I was wrapped up in the space program when I was a kid. I dig the look. I hope it does work, because I would love to see Remington have a winner/contender in the game instead of a boat anchor.

I don't care about looks, I have my pretty guns, but I prefer function.  I have a beautiful .22 auto that cant fire 3 times without a jam (S&W escort micro).  I have other pretty guns that work but I wouldn't want to carry/scratch/use too much.  This thing is about as attractive as any other plastic pistol, which is "not very".  If that trigger is short and light, it might find a home since most of the small 9s have hard to use triggers, if it works now.   They will have a hard time selling it after the awful release though --- I would expect a full warranty including shipping paid both ways if I were to buy one now, after that mess.

disturbingly, it looks almost just like it.

That's what I thought the first time I ever saw a picture of one.

It really does look like a toy.  Does it shoot little disks?

Wow, that brings back memories.

I had forgotten about those.

They should have dropped it all together, those who owned one would have a rare collectible in 10 years even if it was a bad pistol.

If I bought a Remington Pistol it would be their R1 1911 with the old school looks. I've heard and read some good reviews about that one.

I like the look of Glocks so I don't think it is a ugly gun the real question is how well it work for a $400 gun?

Thanks

I had a couple of those. Got real good with them too.

Me too.  This is how much of a dorky little kid I was...

Some of the disks had that little divot on their edge that would make them curve badly in flight.

I did experiments on divot placement (8 positions) to see if I could reduce that.

Obviously, this was WAY before I discovered that "girl germs" were awesome.    ;)

I still have the first version. Honestly never tried to shoot it.  They had an offer to send in and get the new version, they said oct 14 is when they would ship.  Looks like they were off by a few months.

The R51 and Glock can even come close to the ugliness of the HIGH POINT...
